I had a bagged 2005 3500 Duramax with a turbo back exhaust, Banks intercooler tubing with the stock intercooler, LBZ mouthpiece that I ported myself, a couple 90° 4" couplers 4" pipe and K&N filter on the end of a tune, Duramax Tuner's 450 whp tune using EFI Live and consistently went 14.2 at 97mph back in 2011 in Alabama in the hottest part of summer. With a built transmission and lift pump I would have safely run DT's 600 whp tune and easily run mid to low 13s. 8.9 in the 1/8th is a 13.95 roughly in the 1/4 so that's not too bad keeping all the emissions. Now ditch all of it, run a really hot tune and run deep in the 12s.

Nick at Duramax Tuner is awesome. I don't know if he still does it but a one year subscription for $300-500 got you all of the tunes he has written for all generations of the Duramax. I went from 16.0 with my bolt ons to 14.2 with just his tune on a LLY. And I still got 18-22 mpg in town with his tune. This truck's numbers aren't an accurate depiction of how fast his "race" tunes are or how economical his MPG tunes are, or how good his damn tow tunes are allowing the stock VGT to act like a Jake Brake helping slow the truck and it's load.

All these comments about the time slip and the power level they SHOULD be at. If you watch the beginning of the build, the parts used COULD handle more but you wouldn't pass Emissions in any way, shape or form. And that alone is an issue for a TV Show. Just look at The Diesel Brothers. How much hot water are they in right now? EPA has dropped the hammer on Tuners as well. BUT, just as we saw in the '80's, technology will catch up and the limiting factor, DPF, will eventually get better as well. It'll take a Hot Rodder in the vain of Gale Banks to do it but it'll get there. He is such a Geek he's already miles ahead of everyone else. Including the Factories.

I like how that have to act happy about such a terrible outcome. The emissions absolutely chokes performance out. Yes 580s is okay, maybe even good for a car. But a 7k lb truck its barely any better. If it was a truly open show they could come out and say how they were just as disappointed as the viewers here. With emissions becoming more and more strict shows and products will slowly become more and more watered down until it is all black market.

@@crimsonsr20 even with a balanced rotating assembly in a diesel, the engines have a lot of harsh harmonics due to the weight of the components, torque, and the high compression ratio of the engines. Diesel engines essentially fire from detonation of the fuel instead of ignition of the fuel. The ATI super dampers (the balancer in question here) are great, and I've even installed them on stock trucks. They take so much harshness and vibration out of the engine that it feels like a different vehicle.

As much as people love car's and truck's that you guys work on at the end of the day this video is to sell parts for companies. Problem is when they try to lie or manipulate their customers to believe their product's and intentions are the best intention's & they are true to their word about being there to take care of the customer.
