The reality is the Armata has not been stress tested under combat conditions. It might look bright and shiney but we do know it breaks done, as was seen at a major parade in the Red square. Russia is claiming that the T-14 is the first invisible tank and it's firing on Ukrainian positions. The tank is so invisible that it is not even seen within 5 miles of a Ukrainian position, and any it is firing at was evacuated in 2014. If it is really firing at Ukrainian positions then it is within range of anti tank capabilities and the Russians do not want one of these brewing up on western TV. T-14 is a brand new and much troubled tank which has been produced in very small numbers, fewer than 50. Last year the procurement program was cancelled in order to release funds for front line equipment. Unless the T-14 is a world beater, which seems unlikely, sending it to Ukraine would be a desperate measure.

It's an copy of a more recent German engine that bears a family resemblance. The reason the engine was picked for the Armata program was that it was claimed to be domestically designed and produced. But like an estimated 95% of products in Russia's 'Import Substitution' program, it was actually built using mostly imported parts. The development money was spent trying to make some of these parts in Russia, but the result was lower power, mediocre longevity and a high chance of failure under sustained loads. That's why the engine development funding was canceled in 2018, and it's very unlikely that the T-14 will ever be put into production in its current form. Russia still needs a powerpack based tank design, but right now they can only build the T-90M, basically a turret and engine moderization to the T-72. And they only delivered 6 batches of ten T-90Ms in 2022, (5 batches if you are strict with the calendar year).

The Russian engine was designated the A-85-3. However, Transdiesel Design Bureau did not design the engine for a tank but rather as a unit for compressor oil and gas pumping stations. It proved a flop and failed to make any sales despite repeated demonstrations at exhibitions. Designed around the engine By a roundabout and unclear route, Uralvagonzavod (UVZ) - Russia’s main tank manufacturer - decided to use the engine as the basis of a novel tank: the T-14 Armata. The tank was designed around the engine and not the other way round. It seemed a good idea: the A-85-3 was smaller and more powerful, if heavier, than the V-92S2F now fitted to the modern T-72B3s and T-90s. However, this decision had two important and deleterious consequences. The A-85-3 did not sell because it was complex, manifested too many problems, and was difficult to maintain. The engine needed many more run-hours to refine the design. It is assumed UVZ was confident the problems would be rectified over time. They have not been and the A-85-3 remains a problem engine. The second consequence has followed from the size of the engine. A quick solution might have been to abandon the A-85-3 and refit T-14 Armata with the proven V-92S2F - except the latter does not fit, it is bigger. The only realistic engineering solution now is to start again. Currently, no authority appears willing to accept this reality. The engine is a copy and it is probably the reason that the Armata is still not in mass production. The design is promising, but if there were no problems with it, whether budgetary or otherwise, it would be in mass production. How many are there? 20? That screams problems to me.

The only good things on the T14 are made with western micro chips that's why they have made so few! The night vision kit is off a Mark 1 leclerk from the 90's! Depending on model it will cost 4.5-7mill per tank and Russia is dusting off T55!! Ukraine has let Russia use up most of there good kit fighting for silly ground that has no value and now all of there troops are back from training with there new kit and all they have to deal with is a boy in a rusty T55! Russia has only relatively few of these tanks. Crew survivability is irrelevant If the tank is destroyed. Crew can be replaced quicker than the tanks can.

Well, the RuSSian crews seem to run away from their burning tanks often enough already.Maybe they'll feel a smidgin safer in these monsters, what with better armour and all; but I look forward to seeing how T-14s perform in the turret tossing stakes. A good ATGM such as the NLAW and Javelin explodes above the turret, so extra side armour just makes the tank heavier, no safer.

I think it's for testing, just like they will do with those small robot tanks. There's no better place to test than in Ukraine against western equipment. If proven effective they will produce more of it and use it.

@@occif2023 I was actually referring to Russia's ES300 s400s 500 that Ukraine's su-25 are beating daily. Those were touted to destroy American F-22 and f-35. Look at how many countries in the last year have cancelled Russian contracts to buy military equipment all due to their poor performance in Ukraine. Russia released hypersonic video three years ago in animation. United States is transparent we say when we have succeeded test and failed tests. China's actually doing the same kind of stuff. America usually understand the capability of our stuff where Russia will oversell the capability of theirs. Sandbox and TS supply just recently made some pretty good videos about the topic while being more than fair to Russia

I think RF has adjusted to that and you hear very little Javelin kills these days...... Not as much as lancet and kornet kills these days.
