On the occasion of Victory Day Parade, Russian President Vladimir Putin said troops and volunteers in the eastern Ukrainian Donbas region were "fighting for the motherland, its future" and he accused the West of preparing for an "invasion of our land". Putin was speaking at the annual parade on Moscow's Red Square, which marks the anniversary of the Soviet Union's victory over Nazi Germany in the Second World War. He called Nato "an obvious threat" to Russia and said the Russian military operation had been necessary and the "right decision". Watch 5Live with Shiv Aroor on India Today.

Ukraine has every right to defend itself, but also the fact it should be pointed out that the Russian army is a mess, whilst it has always had bad logistic, its clear the operation was poorly planned and Russia is intent on hiding the true casualty figures throwing their own soldiers under the bus and disrespecting them.

@@kakylaid I don't think there's going to be any winners in this war, but Russia has shown it has not kept up with the times, the deep battle doctrine failed to take their initi objectives with the exception of Kherson, when that didn't work it was played off as a "diversion" the equivalent of the British claiming Gallipoli to be a diversion during WW1. Secondly, it has no NCO's, so the Russian generals are scrambling from position to position desperately trying to keep morale up whilst getting picked off in the process, Russian soldiers can't act independently and therefore can't adapt to the changing battlefield conditions. Everything that doesn't work in Putin's favor is suppressed from the Russian public, the only thing he has going in his favor is his complete control of Russian media and the suppression of any dissenting voice by crushing it. You might think Russia is big enough to absorb the blows, but one, it doesn't have infinite resources and without declaring full mobilisation will take time to replace and second, Putin is gambling with Russian soldiers lives, which he's callously throwing away, you might think its their duty to die for the nation, but i bet they think otherwise, and when their comrades die they take it out on innocent Ukrainian civilians. Finally, any areas that Russia does take will be met with an insurgency worse that what they faced in Afghanistan, so will have to worry about what's in front of them, and behind, I'm sure Ukraine has taken heavy losses, but Russia isn't in a position to be boasting.

This Ukrainian war only makes him hate them more. 🤣 I like the country and many Russian things, like architectural styles, but not necessarily ethnically Russian people. I live in Canada and have experienced many ethnic Russians throughout my life. I can only think neutrally or slightly positively about 1 of them. The other 14-20 Russians I met made me think very negatively of them.
