@@js8971 My thoughts exactly! I have no doubt that in Ukrainians 'war room' this move was argued ad-nauseum before it was carried out. Things have gotten so entrenched at their front line, that this wild card move may achieve a lot of little 'shifts' in the war. From waking up the Russians to shaking up the other Republics, territories & countries who have beef with Russia. It also undermines Putin & if other politicians smell blood in the water, an opportunity for real 'talks' with a new political regime may present itself.

No one seems to talk about the lack of minefields in Kursk. Due to Western dithering, Russia had two years to place impenetrable minefields all over the place. In some areas they were using triple the normal mine density, making it nearly impossible for Ukraine to move forward. No such minefields exist in Russian territory, making them far more vulnerable to an offensive there.

One scenario is that Ukraine does not push for more conquests but creates an atrition zone that is far less favourable to Russia than the dense minefields and artillery positions Russia has further south. The 2023 Ukrainian counteroffensive failed because Ukraine was pushed to launch a campaign with ZERO air support against an enemy that had been given several months to prepare a multi-layered, fully mined, defensive line and get themselves well dug-in. No NATO force would’ve attempted such a move. It was destined to fail before it even began. I wish Western analysts would quit talking about it as if it was all Ukraine’s fault. It's been a success, and it is not too early to say so. Now, it could be a qualified success or a huge one, but that is a matter of degree. Russia was caught with their pants down and is getting their rears kicked in. Prisoners, recovered working equipment, tanks, etc. and the need to respond which has been tepid and ineffectual, and in fact counterproductive as relief columns have been destroyed. The phycological impact alone has rocked the Russian state, which is already on shaky ground, perhaps other regions will rise up against Mother Russia, as she is a witch.

It amazes me the confidence these experts (who are constantly surprised by Ukraine) talk about what is going to happen. If Russia could push Ukraine out of Kursk in a month, then why after two years haven’t they taken all of Ukraine? The lines are pushed out now and supply chains are extended, but the forces (however capable they may be) are useless if you are afraid of taking chances and using them. Ukraine had to do something different if they expect anything to change. With American elections coming up, new Western equipment coming in, and Winter on the way, this seems like an extremely smart move. This action may just create Political problems in Moscow as well if they are able to hold the territory. Never mind the problems Russia will have to shift forces to a new theater of operations.

@@robertmoreland2638 The Russians have been using the overland route a lot. The Kerch bridge is not fully operational for rail traffic. The ferries are destroyed, and the Black Sea fleet has retreated. Overland has often been Russias only option. That is why Putin has been building a railway through occupied southern Ukraine. Of course, it's useless to him. It is within ATACMS range now, more billions that the strategic genius has wasted. Just because they have started by road, it doesn't mean they have to continue by road. They will probably entrain somewhere.

Why is no one talking about the fact this operation has likely been drawn up a year ago. A year ago, Ukrainians army/Govt started publicly talking about how UKR army does not have enough people. And for the last year, thats all we heard - not enough people, not enough people, not enough people. The west picked up these talking points and have been saying the same things on their airways..... I kept thinking "why on earth would the public admit they don't hav enough people, that only helps Russia". Well now we know. I bet Russia saw the large amounts of UKR on the border building up, but they're like "they dont have nought people to push into Russia". I think this was a years long psychological operation, and I think it's jus the beginning. I think there is something else in the works......

Honestly, I think a major success for Ukraine would be if Russia is now forced to bolster the number of troops along the Russia-Ukraine border. Its clear that all Russias battle tested and best trained are in Ukraine. If they have to deploy those Troops back to Russia, then they wont be able to use them in Ukraine. Its a simple tactic that if successful should have a large impact on Russias ability to pursue offensive actions in Ukraine. Dont forget, Ukraine already has had to split their troops to defend their entire border. Now Russia will have to do the same. I doubt that Ukraine has any long term plans for Kursk.
@thuzan117
@thuzan117 28 күн бұрын
yeah the only way this can really go poorly for Ukraine is if somehow Russia manages to surround and destroy the Ukrainian forces in Kursk, which I doubt is gonna happen. If Russia redeploys a big enough forces to force the Ukrainians back then the Ukrainians would be retreating back to their own prepared defensive positions across the border which are largely intact and at that point Russia would need to decide to either cross the border and open a new, costly front while the main combat line is undermanned and strained by Ukraine or they would have to stay on their side of the border and either sit there to prevent another Ukrainian incursion, keeping the frontline stretched thin, or relocate back to the main lines where they just came from, leaving the border exposed to further attacks. Russia doesn't have any good options here. Whatever they do, it's going to create a weakness.
