Russia spent many years trying to avoid this conflict with Ukraine through diplomatic efforts to have Ukraine stop their shelling and missile strikes on the population of the Donbass region! When Russia's diplomatic efforts failed leaving Russia little choice but to launch a military intervention in Ukraine they generously offered peace talks that unfortunately Zelensky stubbornly refused!
