Sorry I was comparing apples and oranges there as the minuteman 2 is a ground based ICBM. The closest US equivalent to this missile would be the submarine launched Trident D5 missile. Originally invented in 1950 and upgraded to the D5 variant in 1980. My point still stands though.

7 subs x 16 missiles per sub = 112 total missiles. Each missile can carry 6 warheads so 112 missiles x 6 warheads per missile = 672 possible warheads. I said "possible" here because no ICBM ever made had a payload of 100% warheads. They always contain 1 or 2 decoys per missile to ensure the real warheads hit their targets no matter what. However this is still enough firepower to scortch a continent.
