You go to prison now for 15years calling a war WAR. Russia doesn't have any other industries. I actually talked to a trucker that was going from Italy to Moscow, taking a lot of Italian imports tu Russia, and he said his truck is empty on the way back to Italy. Russia doesn't make many goods for export, except some food items. I've spoken to a Russian Ukranian and said Moscow is nice, but there are many poor areas in Russia that look worse than Ukraine.

When a Govt keeps any organisation or force empowered for it's job " in time", there is no doubt on what it can achieve. Russia in WW2 actually took the brunt of German wehrmacht and blunted it. If Russia had not survived so the West could not have won against the prepared German war machine. When Japan did not interfere on the Russian front in East Russia and were tied down in Central and East Asian tasks, the Russians were able to move their troops towards Stalingrad and Moscow and turn the fortunes of battle. Russia had learnt her lessons well and had not used her strategic power which she refined after her Afghanistan fiasco. The West has never faced the conventional Russian reorganized army which she prudently will not fritter away in adventurism. Even if she does not invade Ukraine she can still achieve her strategic aims by making NATO overplay her cards

Also rewriting historical events in some side to be best-looking view. From 2003 ukraine nazis funded by such NKO. And if new unstable democracy has territorial dispute, if it provided security guarantees, like too Georgia was in 2008, may easy decide to solve conflict military - wise. (2008 war). Also did u red Bzezinski Grand chesboard book? Look how many times he was US presidents advisor. I don’t think you understand the Taliban never won any battles and only managed to kill less than 3000 troops in 20 years. Iraqi insurgents did a lot better than that in less time and Viet Cong/NVA did way better than both with 68000 in like 8 years. There is a branch named Realism in international relations theory. So, serious scientists is researching about it. The Russian Federation is more than just Putin. What bother the west the most is that Putin has a 70% approval rating in Russia today, while no one in the west came not even close to that, in their respective countries. After the debacle of the Soviet Union, the West thought Russia would end up just another vassal state like most of Western Europe is today, not even close, Putin had something coming for them. Another thing that bothers the West, it's that after the fall of the Soviet Union almost 50% of its industry ended up in another country, other than the Russian Federation, but the country has bounced back and today the Russian economy is the 11th in the world and keeps growing, even after the West imposed all those sanctions after the US and NATO overthrew the government of Ukraine in a coup in 2014, the country kept growing. Last but not least, Russia's re-incorporation of Crimea back into the Russian Federation, Putin left the West flabbergasted! - They thought they would have the legendary Russian port of Sevastopol all to their NATO fleet, boy were they wrong! Those are some of the reasons they hate Putin!

It's complicated to explain so bear with me. For Russia to have the same military expenses as the US would require Russia to be extremely different than Putin's Russia. Russia would have to be faring better economically which isn't possible without some specific laws and democracy (that would certainly spell Putin's doom if they were implemented). A democratic Russia would mean that Russia would probably be in the EU or at least NATO and if Russia was allied with the US, it wouldn't make any sense for them to spend so much on their army. An economically stronger Russia would also mean that their currency wouldn't be so undervalued for the sake of selling gas cheaper to the EU and would mean that wages and production costs would raise dramatically. Russia is actually spending a greater percentage of its GDP on its military than the US is and has a greater percentage of its population working in the military. If Russia actually spent as "much" as the US is (taking into account the economic necessities to do so) the Russian army would be noticeably weaker (would be spending around 3.7% of its gdp on the army instead of 4.3%). Money is subjective, what has to be taken into account is the raw production strength injected into the Russian military. Even if Russia's military budget seems abysmal compared to what the US army gets, Russia is still investing more of its resources in its military than the US is. The only reason the US is still ahead militarily is that less than 4% of its GDP is far greater than 4.3% of the Russian GDP. We also have to take into account that the US army isn't just "the soldiers, planes, nukes and tanks" but money invested in bases in Europe and East Asia. Russia's economy is geared towards war and set up to wage war whilst the US economy is geared towards civilians and prosperity (which makes it far more costly to R&D military techs and hire soldiers). Some part of the US military sector is civilian meaning that civilians own the factories and R&D teams as if they were designing and selling phones so their main motive is profit and not providing the US with as much as they could (part of the raw productivity here is "lost" and diverted to the civilian sector). On the other hand, Russia seems to have complete control of its military sector meaning that money invested in R&D isn't diverted so much into the civilian economy. This reduces the cost of military production and R&D but also means that the military sector is less reliable and doesn't evolve as naturally as if civilians had some control over it. (If the US was threatened, they'd temporarily take control of the civilian parts of the military industry in order to reduce costs which would translate to a lot more firepower and R&D produced, it's like trading long term improvements for short term gains and would be caused by an exceptional event requiring the US to sacrifice some prosperity for direct, tangible military assets.) The only way Russia could spend so much would be if Russia was closer to the US economically speaking and in this case, it would require almost 12% of its gdp to keep up with the US which means less money for other projects which means discontent and political suicide for the government. The answer is thus: Russia simply can't spend that much money no matter what happens, money isn't very good at comparing how much a country is investing in its military. The answer if we ignore the economic constraints it: Russia would be using almost 60% of its gdp on its military and would suffer greatly (starvation, rebellions, corruption and so on). On the other hand, the Russian military would probably be a beast but not that much (at best, triple their power) as simply throwing money at things doesn't translate 1 on 1 as raw efficient production. The more you spend, the less you get regarding military R&D (diminutive returns, which also help explain why the US has such a huge military budget on paper). Also taking into account that an army needs people and a stable country to work properly which wouldn't be the case if Russia spent 60% of its money on the army (with 40% of what's left to keep the entire country running). (60% of the money would be spent on the army (around 1M+ soldiers) whilst only 40% would be spent on 143M people).

According to Newton's Third Law and in Physics, for every action force, there is an equal and opposite "REACTION" force, which can be represented mathematically by this: Fa = -Fb where Fa stands for force, -Fb stands for the equal but opposite reaction force.
