I would just like to say Morgan is so magical. He start yelling "All ducks go to bed!" and despite the fact that my ducks just got up an hour ago they went running to their winter enclosure. By the end of the video I had some very mad ducks because their dinner was not waiting for them, I had to give them a second breakfast. Thanks for turning my ducks into Hobbits.

Just a guess: Take away the coop (old nesting area) the chickens will find and prefer the most defendable roost, maybe you need to add some vertical perches to the hoop coop? The chickens seem to prefer slightly off the ground smaller spaces away from other birds.

The mobile chicken coop is in the hoop coop, even if it wasn't obvious in the shot. But yes, there's a place for the chickens to go. I'd guess its automatic door will be set to stay open all the time, now that it's in the hoop coop.

Hey Morgan, I hope you find this helpful: I have noticed that you do this rather often: you reward Abby (especially verbally) while she is in the wrong mindset. If Abby is hyper-focused on the birds, she should not be getting rewarded at all. You verbally reward her for not taking action, but she is still in the mindset which is causes the action you don't want her performing. You will never get her out of the mindset itself, if you keep telling her that she can have the mindset but not the action. That causes frustration - You are telling her it's okay to hyper-focus on the birds as long as she doesn't touch. Maybe I'm not 100% on what you and your trainer are doing, but as someone who has trained dogs before, I would think that you are confusing your AbbyDabbyDoo. For example, @1:50 you tell Abby she is being good, but she is extremely interested in the birds. She is NOT, in fact, being good. Then, only minutes later, @2:52, Abby is still presenting the same too-interested attitude that you verbally rewarded minutes before, and she takes action on that attitude. You told her she was good, while she was too interested in the birds. The fence, in this scene, is the only thing keeping her away (smart of you to remove her from the situation). If the fence weren't there, though, would you still be encouraging her attitude with "good girl?" Because she is in fact NOT being a good girl. She's focused HEAVILY on the birds. The birds could see and feel it too. See Abby's ears, her eyes. She is visually predating on the birds in this scene. They rightfully didn't want to approach her. Because she was /not/ being good. Telling her she is good when she is hyper-focused on the birds reinforces her hyper-focus on the birds. Don't tell her she is good just because she's not actively biting/chasing. The key here is to reinforce the MINDSET you want the dog to have. Not telling the dog what ACTION you want it to take. This isn't "sit/stay" this is "we're changing your mind on whether or not you see these animals as prey/play." The dog will take action based off of it's mindset. Training the mindset trains the actions. Work from the top down. You might be making this harder on yourself than you need to. :) I hope that you find this helpful, and not judgemental or hurtful.

You're so right. I always think this when I see abby in the video's. This dog does not understand what Morgan wants. He doesn't do it on purpose but it very much is happening. He always says he wants her to be more independant but all you see and hear is 'Abby come Abby sit Abby stay Abby good girl. Not to be mean but when will you see your positive reinforcement training isn't working very well.

I have some psychological analisis I want to share with you. First of all the chickens climbing on top of the ATV is because they're used to the chicken wagon. Second of all I was thinking back to when Abby attacked the white chickens. I think it's because she was used to playing with all of her white furred puppy family back at the breeder. What I like most about your channel, Morgan, is that you're so messy. Chickens: Put some sunflower seeds or corn in a coffee can. Every time you feed them or give them scraps, shake the can. Shake the can and give them a treat. Exact same principle as your alfalfa cubes with the cows, and it works much better than chasing hens around with a net, lol. They WILL learn the sound of that can rattle and will come running. Seriously. Chickens aren’t as stupid as people think, they just have their own goals and agenda. When I first got hens, I had a grapefruit tree. A bunch had fallen and I thought I’d be clever and dig a hole so they could compost. I forgot about them and a few days later stepped in the buried pile…yuk! Rotting fruit covered with really big maggot looking things…shudder. The chickens were following me and they found those creepy bugs and went to town. Great right? No! Instead of just scratching at the ground, those clever little birds started digging ankle deep holes all over the dang yard looking for more maggoty treasure, lol! They were hazard! The point? Chickens can do rudimentary reasoning, learn, remember, and are VERY food motivated!

Ducks are more trainable than people think. My wife has trained our Welsh Harlequins to poop on command. Most people reply with, 'that's what ducks do all the time anyway', but we showed our Vet when we were there on an appointment one time, and they were shocked, they said they never seen anything like it. I give Morgan the credit for inspiring me to get ducks, and we love the seven ducks we have. I use the line, 'all ducks in the pen', and they know exactly what that means, and single file right into the pen, no matter what time of day or night.

I had a shed studio added in my backyard last winter. This summer I had a litter if skunks sharing underneath with a family of squirrels. I consider my yard a wildlife sanctuary, so I used “ All skunks go to bed! All skunks go to bed!” when I was coming in and out. All the younguns would stop what they wee doing and turn for bed. No stinks and everybody grew up and moved on.

When we go to Memphis for the music festival we always stay at the Peabody Hotel downtown Memphis because of the duck march to the lobby fountain every morning and every evening when its time for them to go to bed which is atop of the hotel so yes, they come and go via the elevator...its such a great production they put on with the duck master leading the ducks...they've been doing this since the 1940's from what I understand 👍

We use what we call a "party light" to keep our hens laying in winter. Once the daylight hours drop below 12hrs chickens lay less or might stop for winter. We only need like 20-something watt rope lighting (incandescent) to make our chickens lay well during winter. Also, we cull our: old hens, hens that are too slow molting, and any lazy/liar hens (by checking their hips and vents). It really helps a flock to weed out the junk, cull it, then keep the good ones and breed more of their genes instead.
