The anchor raising sequence is awesome. Really imparts the difficulty of raising it solo without the windless and with the bow roller issue. I wanted to cheer when the anchor finally appeared.

Lauren, what an outstanding start to 2023. I know it was shot in 2022, but I feel that traveling with you on your adventures, makes it timeless. I was right there with you, fixing your navigation lights, as I changed out mine, with led lights, this last year. Have you thought of switching to led lights? No more bulbs to blow. Great, great, great scenery b role shots of sailing, sunsets, and repare shots. Thanks for sharing your sailing knowledge with us. It help to the feeling of traveling virtually with you. Can't wait to see what is next in your adventure. Until then, be happy, be safe, and keep up the fabulous job you are doing.

@@laurenlanders hi Lauren, I put a new engine in my boat and one of the things the installation manual said was that the exhaust elbow must not be below or close to the waterline this includes when the boat is heeling under sail. Because the hight might look fine when the boat is upright but if it heels then the distance from the exhaust riser elbow to the waterline might become insufficient. it must also have a siphon break loop and valve in it that is always well above the waterline. My suspicion is you haven’t got that and water is finding its way back up the exhaust through the water lock…. You have got a water lock in the exhaust line? (If not that’s definitely the issue) And back into the engine. In all three of the boats I owned including my current boat you can turn the water inlet stopcock on and leave it on all day with no issues whether the engine is on or off. Sorry I can’t join your Patrion I have no money left after paying for my boat ;) but I do think your channel is great and you are a great skipper. I hope you get the problem fixed.

Happy New Year, Lauren! It was impressive to pull the anchor up single-handedly. I am also a sailor, and a pilot. During the past Thanksgiving break, I took my family out on a 37' Beneteau and anchored in SF Bay near the Golden Gate Bridge. I was glad I had my 21 yr old daughter to help me out in anchoring. Have fun in your adventure. It would be my dream to circumnavigate the world when I am retired. _____Alex

It has been awhile, but wedding veil cloth draped over your boom, main hatch and cockpit has small enough weave to keep out mosquitos. You make a tent. Of course you need to anchor it to your gunnels and deck, then shoot high quality bug spray around the base and any potential gaps to keep the entrepreneurs out. You need to do the same for your deck hatches and portlights so you get some ventilation. Then you can work, chart, edit and sleep in reasonable comfort except for the heat. You don't want that complexion all lumpy from skeeters. If insects become too prevalent, up anchor and heave to 20 miles off shore. Sleep during the day when sailors can see you and stay up at night to work and shoot your flare gun at idiots who seem intent upon running you down. At least the bug problem will abate.

Whene you mentioned mosquitoes, and no breeze, I searched the internet to see if a fan can reduce mosquitoes. There was a NYTimes article that talks about this and it does reduce the mosquitoes because they don't have the strength to overcome the breeze from a fan. I think I will put a box fan, or oscillating fan pointing at me when I'm out at the boat. ChatGPT also points out the fan helps to disperse the heat and carbon dioxide that attract mosquitoes.

I forgot to mention a trick I used ; when hauling anchor on board/ or hauling an anchor -line to kedge off a shoul,, improvise a long snubber back to your hallyard or sheet-winch using an old sheet-rope and tie your famous knot onto anchor-chain or your # 1 snubber, and wind away, ( at the awkward swivel moment, tension up and then go up near mast and lift rope or pulse it up onto high mast clete, this may just get swivel over and hold it till you go back to sheet-winch ) Hope this makes sense, if not novil reading, lol

She is exhausted... pulling the anchor ⚓ took alot of energy...the rolling chalk should have a grease fitting. As far as the anchor wench it's electric? could possibly be wiring or the motor needs to be replaced however you could put a hydraulic line running from main to keel then it would just be a matter of switching a switch or lever and anchor could be controlled when setting or pulling...I'm sure it crossed your mind ☺️. your becoming a electrician it's fascinating to see you become a professional awesome. Getting off topic when you get to Florida you might want to think about either putting in a hydraulic line for anchor or just keeping it the way it is. However you will have to get an electric motor ? I'm almost positive that could be the problem. No sense of spending a bunch of money if you don't have to. not that it is expensive Lauren is always a privilege and honor to See .
