***A HUGE word of caution using pump e85 without a flex fuel sensor!*** not all pump e85 are created equal. Pump e85 can be a maximum of 85% ethanol but as low as 51% and if you dynotune at a low E content and then fill up at 80% the bike WILL run lean! You can get MASSIVE variances from pump e85 even at the same station from one fill to the next. You need to test the ethanol content. Test kits are cheap and easy to use.

Lovin E85 for many reasons (more power, runs cooler, no emissions to worry about) It's a way better fuel. Hatein that it reduces your range so much on a small tank.
@Diavolo_VRSC Жыл бұрын
Should try doing a flex fuel sensor if your software allows mapping based on the sensor. E.g. the sensor will read the % of ethanol and the tune will be scaled in accordance with that percentage. This way, you don't need to switch maps.

The dynojet powervision and stock ecu do not support this. Most aftermarket ecu can easily do this, but I don't believe that includes the standard harley plug and play systems.

Awesome video with excellent info. regarding the Pro's and Con's of running E85 fuel in Harley Davidsons. Currently building a 132 Cu.In.[all S&S] for my Road Glide ST (daily ridden). From an Engineering perspective and IMO, the ultimate street setup would be a system that can detect [measure] what's in the fuel tank [all E85, all gasoline, and any mixture blend of the two...like the system in the 2023 Dodge Challenger Demon 170], and make tuning adjustments. The alternative obviously is to run a Dyno Jet PV3b ('21 & newer M8 HD; PV3 for '17-'20 M8 HD) with two tunes...1 for all E85 and 1 for all gasoline (91-93 octane pump). Great content!!!

I love e85! It’s like adding a power adder. IF you do add a power adder, E85 comes on even stronger and more efficient. Couple downsides, availability. If it sits too long it will gum up the injectors and pump. It’s a trade off. But what a trade off it is!!!! I’ve never done it to my bike but LS and coyote engines love some E!

Hi 👋, BlockHead . That was very interesting, incredible amount of power increase, and I’ve noticed, and I think you said about your exhaust, his way way too short, I do not know anything about the dynamics. Exhaust building know about engine tuning, especially when it comes to electronics., but as saying that I had a stock 1999/2 Deuce, 1450, Then put a big bore kit on it. I’ll change the cam, carburettor, ignition, module, oil, pump et cetera, and I tried at least three different exhaust systems, I ended up with a DD what I think was called a boom can, I’ve even tried approaching them a few months ago to see whether I can still purchase one of these. I just did not get any reply at all. , I think it might of been a one-off in some respect as it was for a magazine I think easy Rider, can’t remember, put the pipe seems to be a lot longer than what’s on your bike. The end of the cone goes well past the centrepoint of the rear wheel, and is a lot bigger in diameter, I think from what I can remember is around 5 inches. diameter. Ha ha size does matter, and this is when it’s cold😂, So am I right in saying that in a few increase the length of the pipe and the diameter of it, you will get more power on the top end , ? . Of course, the intake manifold could probably be either lengthened or shortened to either give you more bottom end, torque or top and talk . I presume you are doing a service on your bike before you doing this , change and oil et cetera , each time, Very interesting subject, engine, tuning and performance, where you gain on one side, you sometimes eventually end up a loss engine blow, Good luck for the future. Look forward to watching and listening. Ha ha to your next performance update. , Stay safe ride free , Phil from the moulin France.

Always enjoy the direction and candor offered in your videos. No buts. However I hope the audience understands that normal operation lives below 4,500 rpm 90+% of the time and someday you ARE gonna POP that sucker good and let the smoke out. I think Mr. Shelby said something about never having tooo much horsepower, but not finding enough traction is the real issue. Stay safe and don't burn down the shop.
@pistonburner6448 Жыл бұрын
I don't understand what you mean by that. Pop what, let the smoke out of what and why? And what's that about traction? And why would the shop burn? You seem to be expressing multiple different concerns, but you're not actually saying which concerns and what to do to avoid what you're warning about.

Def either put a gm flex fuel sensor in there to monitor ethanol content and do a full flex fuel tune to have it adjust on the fly based on ethanol content or spend $10 on an ethanol tester and don’t fill up under what it’s tuned on. E85 can legally range from e70-e90 and can affect AFR’s. For us in states that have cold weather we also get what’s called winter blend with can be even lower than e70. Ethanol is a corrosive fuel as well and shouldn’t sit in lines or injectors too long. You could get gunk built up under the tips and could clog passages from being gunked up causing a flow issue which could lean out. Ultrasonic injector cleanings on a machine annually or bi annually is a good idea or don’t always run it to let 93 clean out the tips. I run ignite red and buy barrels of it for consistency. I would be very curious to see what Goldzilla would do on one ethanol r. That’s a killer fuel. English racing does a very good video tuning an evo full flex fuel where they do a full map starting on e10 and pouring in 10% more ethanol and doing another map so there’s a map on e10, e20, e30 etc and gained like 600hp throughout the tune with a gm flex fuel sensor and it will be able to switch maps on the fly based on ethanol content

Basically e85 runs cooler which is where the up to 20% bump in power comes from but with forced induction you want e85 since it increases your ability to increase compression without causing detonation due to its high octane levels.

I did a milage study on 03' FXDX comparing regular an high test fuels? Motorcycle ran fine with no damage. Effects were slight decrease in both milage an power, but almost unnoticed. I have an oil test machine an have tested major oil brands too. Octane is measured in tenths. So, if you read label increasing octane by one point, that does Not mean from 85 to 86 octane. That means 85 too 85.1 octane. My 88' GW, with Honda car motor is designed to be used in a car with regular fuel. So operating in lighter motorcycle is ok to use regular fuel! Two thing will happen with too much octane in fuel. Pre- ignition on deceleration exhaust pop, an reddish coloration of sparkplugs. Deceleration pop is my indicator an I don't care about reddish colored plugs,!

Here in Australia we get premium 98 octane with no ethanol at every station, I run it in my bike for the cleanliness and longevity of the bike, I've been told the m8 with only a stage 1 won't see the benefits above 95, but in my experience all my engines run better on it. Interesting story, my parents blew a head gasket in their car (due to leaving the radiator cap off) and although the car had 200,000+ kilometres mileage the engine was still squeaky clean and perfect inside due to only ever being fueled with 98 premium

Get a old carbureted scooter, get a extra carb and a simple toolkit, rejet the carb for E85, carry the original gas carb for when you run out of E85 (and you will). When that happens... Find a gas station... Screwdriver and wrench the E85 carb off the bike and replace it with the gas carb in your saddlebag. Then kick it and go... 1/3 the mileage with E85 ya know :-) Bike trailers? Pull one and you won't leave home without it.
