You are eligible for parole on the date the judge decides. In violent cases often times the sentence (in this case it was 16 years) is the minimum before being eligible for parole. In reality those 16 became 18, that is he had 2 added (possibly for aggravating circumstances). So 18 is the MINIMUM before being even considered for release on parole. On the opposite end, if the crime is light and the circumstances call for leniency then the judge may set the parole early and therefore reduce the sentence. Some people serve as little as a third.

If you get sentenced for a murder they give u mandatory life with a recommended tariff, so he will serve 18 and then go for parole if he gets out after that he's got the rest of his life on probation. And all violent crimes in UK now you have to serve a minimum of 2 thirds before release.

For murders and high crimes, when you get big sentences you normally have to do the whole thing, it all depends on what the judge says on the day, if he says minimum term of 18 years or 30 years, that’s the minimum they have to do, after they have to ask if they can come out once every year. Some people never come out cuz they are just on badness in jail so they just keep getting denied parole

depending on the the severity of the crime and the judge you get depends on the time you get some ppl serve ten years after taking a life some serve 40,some never come out. bro some would serve 6 years without even being sentenced yet then get they 20 and have to serve it all. its complicated and weird I know lol

It's different here for violent crimes and murders. They set what they call a tarrif that you have to serve so he probably got 25years or something with a 18 year tarrif he has to serve that as a minimum.

If it's a super violent crime like Murder, and you are an adult you have no chance of doing half on good behaviour, you have to serve the full sentence, which is honestly completely deserved especially in the case with Dave's brother, His brother was 18 at the time when him and and his gang savegely slaughtered an innocent 15 year old kid that was never street or gang affiliated. He was a good kid that really cared about his education. They stabbed him 9 times and stomped on his head numerous times because a girl he had been seeing set him up, lying to the gang and lying to the 15 year old victim, she showed up with a group of actual men from a gang in her area, the fact that these adults were clearly messing with a young girl was super weird to begin with. Dave's brother was the one that did the most stabbing, as the oldest man there, against a little kid. He should never be allowed out.

Don't know if anyone's answered but there's 2 life sentences in the UK, Natural Life means you ain't coming out till your dead in a box and 2nd a life sentence which carries a tariff which is given by the judge which is your earliest possible release but you have to demonstrate to a parole board your safe to be released at tariff expiry, if refused you usually go before the parole board no longer than every 3 years after prior refusal but could potentially be kept locked up indefinitely if not deemed safe for release, if ever released your not a free man an remain on licence for the rest of your life and can be recalled to prison if probation deem you a risk, speaking personally I'm never allowed to travel abroad or stay at any other address overnight without prior probation approval any and all relationships must be approved be that work or personal, it is a life sentence believe me whether I'm in prison or not. You can get lifed off and do half your sentence on good behavior, but be relesed on Charges and IPP. IPP is a 99yr license and probation where if you break any laws even nicking a mars bar you get sent straight back to jail, could be little as 3months or 7yrs. You could be in there indefinitely
