You did not put a link to Joel's KZbin channel in the description. What exactly starts the turbine turning on startup on these?
@al.waterloo3 жыл бұрын
Sorry! Thanks for catching it. Just added it.
@al.waterloo3 жыл бұрын
It’s the starter generator that starts the turbine. Uses battery or ground power to get it rolling!
@wernerdanler27423 жыл бұрын
@@al.waterloo thanks, but how is it connected to the turbine? Is it connected by a gearing mechanism? I kinda thought there was a blower that blew on the turbine somewhere that blew air on it to start it spinning but I cannot seem to find a definitive answer.
@al.waterloo3 жыл бұрын
@@wernerdanler2742 In some turbine aircraft, usually much larger engines, use a pneumatic start system. On the Vision Jet it uses electrical power to start. The starter drives a mechanical linkage called a tower shaft to the N2 section of the engine. Once the N2 section is spinning fast enough the FADEC commands fuel into the engine and light off so that the engine becomes self sustaining.
@wernerdanler27423 жыл бұрын
@@al.waterloo Thanks! Does that starter mechanism engage and disengage like on a car? I didn't think a mechanical linkage could spin the turbine fast enough to get it started. I think these are such neat little jets. I've heard people badmouth them because they are single engine yet people fly single reciprocating engined planes all the time and I think jets are much more reliable.
