Putting The Front End On For The Last Time - 1939 Ford Forgotten Hot Rod

In the very first episode that we did on the wiring for the 1939 Ford Forgotten Hot Rod, Mike installed weather pack connectors for all the wiring on the front clip. Today we are going to work on routing the wiring, building a generator bracket, and installing the front clip for the last time. The 1939 was converted to sealed beam headlights at some point, but we are going to revert back to original 39 buckets and lenses. After digging through all the parts we have for the car we realized we are missing a headlight bucket which prevented us from installing the drivers light. In the next episode we hope to have new reflectors that will allow us to run a halogen style bulb, and the missing bucket. We are slowly knocking stuff off the list and it will soon be time for road tests!!!

I think the 39 headlights are a much better look than the 40s, cleaner and sleeker (if that's a word). You heating and bending that piece reminded me of when I was 10 with a broken arm and helping my dad bend a piece for his "stock car". He was heating and I had the pipe bending with one arm, complaining about the heat (I didn't have gloves on) and him telling me to keep on bending. 39"s still my favorite project.

Ah ha, '40 Ford headlights on a '39 Ford. That's what was throwing me off...(Did I see 1948 Buick tail lights on the shelf? Those are cool lights.) This car is coming along, and will no doubt be driving soon! I can hardly wait! You are too, no doubt!!! I do remember, having to polarize the old voltage regulators and the generator too, back in the day. Momentarily applying 12 volts, but in reverse polarity. "Flashing" I think was the term, but you know all about this anyways....Keep on wrenching....

Just got to the end of the show and saw you were missing a headlight bucket for the driver side of your 39. I’m cracking up - I’m finishing my 47 TUDOR right now and I missing the headlight ring for the driver side. At least I have the bucket. But I coulda swore I had at least three headlight rings. Nope. I only have one Keep on delivering the great concert. I’m learning and I’m enjoying it very much. Just a few days ago I went back and started over on episode one for the free T. Hey Mat, Mike and Other Guy, Good to see the crew back at it. The 39 Headlights now match the name of the car. Nice wiring job Mike. Mat you are going to unhappy with your bends on the Gen. tentioning bracket. If you look at original brackets they do not have 90 degree bends because they are weak and will eventually crack and break. You can gusset them on the inside of the bend or you can lessen them to 45 degrees to make them more like the original as well as add another layer to that area. You used mild steel but the original bracket is hardened steel. 55 years of experience building this kind of stuff does come in handy now and then. The stress of the gen. belt always trying to pull down will bite you on the butt if you leave that bracket "as is" ! The long curve will be fine but those 90's will get ya. Just an old hot rodders advice. Be safe and well guys. thanks for the videos.

37 to 39 head light glasses are not the same. 39 Std for example looks like a 38 but if you install one on a 39 it will aim the light into the sky. 39 Deluxe are completely different to 39 standard so you need one 39 Deluxe glass rim and bucket. with reflector. I'd be using H4 halogen bulbs too. They didn't refer to those headlights as "glow worms" for nothing. 😉😎
