Apologies for the slow reply - we missed this comment earlier! A GoPro is quite severely limited by the quality of its sensor and optics. While it is acceptable for video, where the movement can mask over resolution issues, these shortcomings are "exposed" (pun intended) when shooting stills. Plus, the inability to add strobes to a GoPro also limits the amount of creative control you have over lighting. IMO, the GoPro is ok for very casual photography - but for someone who is interested in taking good quality images, a proper camera is still the way to go.
