Good thing you showed the details on how to do the front of the top left and top right corners....

I have a Sansui 9090 with its original wood veneer. You picked a very close match to the original wood color and I think your finished project looks very good. I agree with you about the lighter color, which looked wrong for a receiver from that era. Dark walnut wood finishes were very popular during the 1970s, and the dark wood harmonizes nicely with the dark, smoked glass on the front panel. Thank you for sharing!

I chose a glossy burled walnut for two of my Hitachi SR903's. Looks fantastic...plus it: 1) is a reversible decision; 2) serves to protect the original finish/condition of the wooden case. I also opted to replace the feet with larger Aluminum feet. With the vinyl wrap and upgraded feet, both units look fantastic.

Looks great! I did the same with a Yamaha YP-D71 turntable. Got if for free but the left side was once cut off because it didn't fit in a cabinet. It was put back after a while with nails and glue. I used the same color as you did and it turned out great. Maybe I'll do.the same with my Akai AA 1020. Maybe.......

This video was lacking in that it had, I know, a lot of intricate detail work that was left to the imagination. Like for instance, the foil magically got nicely tucked and cut over the little 1/4" edge in the front. It would've been nice to see how you did that.

Awesome video - I have a near mint Sansui 7070 above me now, powering the PC audio. I would have never guessed you were not a native english speaker - you have better pronunciation and grasp of the language than most high schoolers over here!

Hi...Thanks for the video! I too suffer the same thing however the previous owner painted the old vinyl. Should I removed the old vinyl and stick a new one over the wooden case?
@LP3-vinylcleaner3 жыл бұрын
i would definetly peel off the vinyl -> to get rid of the paint. then, depending on the surface a)plain wood: you will need to primer the wood. b)smooth surface: directly apply the foil. - good luck! also i recommend the 3M DiNOC-foil!
@truthful37773 жыл бұрын
@@LP3-vinylcleaner Thanks however primer the wood means painting a layer of primer on the rough surface of wood or apply a fine layer of putty on the surface of the wood for smooth surface. I prefer the former as the former can harden fast what primer you recommend?
@LP3-vinylcleaner3 жыл бұрын
@@truthful3777 i also think that´s the way to go. my personal way would be: applying 3 coats of sprayprimer ( amzn.to/3hQYUFs) until there is a smooth "closed" surface (the foil will superstick to that) - give the paint 2 - 3 weeks to harden, if the surface has flaws, use very fine sandpaper.... then apply foil. - let me know how it went! :)

How did you get the top corners so sharp? Did you do a light go through with the blade?

marveles !!! but did not catches how you did the edges in the front. can you explaine?
@LP3-vinylcleaner6 жыл бұрын
thanks. yeah i missed to show the trimming of the edges, but they are easy: you fold over the overlapping foil and then cut in 45° order - perhaps i should make a more in depth video about it...

I own a 7070 also,i have the same problem,where did you get the book? Why did Sansui use veneer back in the day,the receiver weighs a ton is that why,i want to do mine but in oak or cherry
@LP3-vinylcleaner6 жыл бұрын
...back in the seventies it was common to use a foil rather then real wood. not just sansui did this to reduce the cost of their devices, brands like pioneer, kenwood and even luxman used vinylveneer. so far i have experienced these exceptions: yamaha and b&o! getting the 3M katalog, as a "civillian" should be rather impossible. it is given out to grafic artist and foil related jobs, you are welcome to stop by my shop an dig thourgh it: www.ecker-lichtwerbung.de :) also, good luck on foiling your 7070!

comparing the 3M foil to cheap adhesive is like comparing a porsche to a lada... ...there is a big difference in quality & haptik: if you gone do the job, you might as well invest in quality product that will last!
