I see it like this. Fluttershy does have negative things to say, but she never voiced them for fear of hurting her friends feeling. She has been restrained because she was shy and worried of hurting others. After IronWill’s assertiveness training, she has finally gained a freedom and power she has not had before. But the line “power corrupts” comes into play here. She is so empowered and feels so free, and able to finally release everything she held back that she is drowning in the feeling of empowerment to the point she doesn’t realize she has crossed a line. And she crossed that line when her friends confronted her about it. Before the assertive lessons, Fluttershy probably held back all those things BECAUSE they were hurtful and knew it would hurt them. But AFTER the assertive lessons, Fluttershy has become so empowered and free that she could say such things, and not feel how she hurt her friends until after she has had the chance to actually calm herself and look back on what she just did. Just like in the episode.

Speaking as someone who has actually had a supposed friend tell me that what I was passionate about doing as a career was stupid and pointless, this episode actually hit very close to home in a very bad way. Having that happen to you is immensely hurtful, and it isn't something you get past easily, especially if you're already insecure about your own work. As a result, I agree with Mr. Enter: It was over-the-top abusive behavior, and Pinkie and Rarity reacted unrealistically well to it.

I know a lot of people seem to dislike Mr. Enter, but I thought this review was awesome. Like, even if Mr. Enter wasn't as over the top as Josh, that's the point; Josh is supposed to be the wild one, and typically his collab partners will counter or highlight that. That, and Mr. Enter reminds me a lot of my friend Thomas: Logical, composed, inwardly seething with anger and contempt.

The part that saves this episode for me is when Fluttershy looks at her reflection and admits to herself that she's becoming a monster. I relate to this episode because I've been through the same trialls in my own life; I've been pushed down and devalued by bullies for so many years of my life, when it came to relationships with friends on the internet who I thought I could trust, I started to get quite nasty and spiteful in a bid to be assertive. I did so because I felt I had to be so jaded in order to keep myself safe. I have tried to find that balance between avoiding being abused and not being an abuser back, which is more difficult than many give it credit for. Fluttershy learns from this experience. She demonstrates what I have had to go through, and in the end manages to find that balance. I will admit the pacing is an issue, but at the same time it at least makes some sense why Fluttershy realized how she went much too far.

I personally didn't mind this episode too much despite I hear similar reviews like this about it frequently. I guess I don't mind it and actually embrace it because it told me that the show and writers weren't afraid to take some 'risks' with the characters. I was blindsided by the change of Fluttershy and the tone of everything in the story, that it was actually a refreshing new take for me. Sure it was harsh and even tear jerking... (yes I actually cried seeing Rarity and Pinkie cry), but it still was something new. That alone I'm always happy to see.

I actually love that scene. The way they react to it is just perfect and I think the way it is build up is great. I also think the moral itself is great as the way the ponies act is very much like how people act in the real world. I think it's episodes like these that push FIM above the MLP stigma. Equestria is not just a peaceful wonderland and there will be ponies that will take advantage of your weakness and strength and aggression can still get the job done. There is a saying in Dutch that goes: "Gluttonous people own half the world" meaning that the more demanding you are the more you usually get. I think this episode demonstrated that and that kindness will often just leave you getting taken advantage of.

I really don't understand why there are so many people that hate this episode. Not only do I love this episode, it is one of my favorites. In fact, it's not only just that. This was my very first episode of MLPFIM. I got into the show and this wonderful fandom because of this episode. This episode made me start binging the entire series up to this episode (which was the latest one at the time). The show, the characters, the fan art, fan fiction, and reviewers like Josh and so many others that I've seen are only because of this episode. I get that not everyone can like the same thing. I know that. But everyone can always get excited with the fandom about their start to the show but I can't do that because of all the hate this episode gets. It makes me feel alone in the fandom. I guess why this episode is so important to me is because... I totally relate to this. I was quiet and reserved throughout my childhood. I tended to be a loner, had few friends, and was bullied drastically all the way until I left high school. I always just took it and never fought back or insulted anyone. I decided to be the nice guy. But... there were so many times I wanted to fight. To hurt them like they hurt me. I always thought it would make me feel good, that I would become better if I did the same things. However, I never did. Because I was better than that. I would never hurt anyone because it is wrong. And that's probably why I relate to this episode. I can see myself in what I could have been if I decided to do what everyone else did. I know for a fact I could have been just like Fluttershy in this episode if not worse if I gave up being nice and just did what my bullies did. This episode makes me feel good because seeing Fluttershy show herself to be assertive yet polite at the end, much like how I handled myself when I was bullied. I was kind, but I asserted myself properly. This episode makes me feel proud how I stayed a good person, that I didn't become like how Fluttershy did when she overdid the assertiveness. I have so much good and love in my life now but I wouldn't have had any of that if I gave into my darker feelings growing up. Like how Josh once made a Top 10 Personal Episodes list for this show, if I did it, this episode would be my number one spot. Not only did it lead me to changes and a great show and fandom, it allows me to look back at the choices I made to be good and kind and be proud of that.

Rixec2 People such as myself hate the episode because of what Fluttershy does throughout the episode and how overboard she went with her assertiveness to the point where it can be classed as bullying especially with the Pinkie Pie and Rarity Part. Granted, there are some good points in the episode but the pacing fucks it up really badly and make it seems mean spirited but after watching this episode; my hatred for it seems to be not as bad anymore. I can see how people like the episode and how some hates it while there some indifference about it. It just depends on how you look at it.

"Would you want to add more unpleasant onto the pile?" No, I want to see them be friends again. However, in this particular episode I wanted to see Fluttershy face retribution for her actions. I wanted to see her get some of the wrath that she threw her own friends thrown back at her. She only saw her reflection of her madness in a puddle, she didn't experience her own wrath and feel the pain she dealt to her friends!
