I didn't have much Puyo Puyo experience outside of a bit of Doctor Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine on Sonic Mega Collection but this game was a must when I got my Switch regardless.

How about Panel de Pon X Puyo Puyo ?

Both Dr. Mario and Panel de Pon would be pretty bad. Dr. Mario has a very light attack element that makes it mostly focused on finishing your board than beating your opponent into a gameover. In that case, the win conditions are completely different. Panel de Pon has no sense of urgency and tends to take twice as long to finish competitively because once junk piles over the top, that's how it is the rest of the game and gameover is only achieved by not making matches anymore. Puyo Puyo and Tetris work well together because both play at about the same pace and both deal with competitive garbage flinging in a similar fashion.

But people ARE going to be that fast on movement. And then there's just no loss condition outside of running out of ammunition, the opponent can't speed up your dying at all which is unfair. And if you introduce garbage offset then there's just nothing scary for the PdP guy.

The entire point of that character is that he's a somewhat-antagonist toward Arle, but he's very VERY bad with his words, to the point that he's generally called a pervert and creeper amongst the characters.

Btw, this is one of the few Tetris Games where you can get a ‘Tetris Plus’. Play in party mode, receive the Offensive ‘Pentramino’ Power-Up, and clear 5 lines :)

Drewtwo For me, it depends. For example, Super Bomberman R, I think would be alright if it's $40 new, not $50 as I don't think that it's content is worth the extra $10. I am aware of the free dlc which may change my outlook of it but as of now, I still think $40 new would be better. For Puyo Puyo Tetris, I think $30 is fine because the game packs quite a bit of content within it to justify said price.

The Swap mode is really fun, and you can play it on the demo. I recommend downloading the Japanese one since it allows more matches before resetting.

Honestly, even the Demo is enough for us that are really bad at Tetris (Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine was my jam tho) and can still enjoy one or two rounds each day with friends or CPUs. Maybe if it gets a discount I'll get the full version; and hopefully get better at Tetris

I might have just missed this, but can you actually join rooms with friends? I remember that you couldn't do that in the PS4 Tetris that came out recently-ish. I know he said that you can play with friends in this review, but I'm not sure if that's referring to online or offline :s.

Yes, you can make locked rooms and invite friends online in Free Play. Although you have to make separate rooms for each game type (so if you want to do a different mode, you would need to exit out and make another room).

I played the demo. It was fun but the characters constantly repeating the same speaches during gameplay was a tad bit annoying. I would like to know if you can turn the voices off during gameplay

You can turn them off or use their alternate voices. Similar to the Japanese version, they still talk, but way quieter. If you ever played tons of import games in the nineties, it was PAINFUL to hear the characters speak so much in the game. Most of the time, it drowned out the music. With this game, that's not the case anymore, but it's still fairly loud nonetheless.

In the demo version, you have to manually turn it off each time you start a game, but in the full version I would hope you can just turn it off altogether

Poyo Dose Games There are a few characters that must be unlocked by doing the first 7 chapters of Adventure mode, but there are cheat codes to unlock them, alternate voices, and board skins (except for the ones that must be purchased on the shop with in-game credits).

This comment might be a little late, but yeah! There's a few single player challenges included in the game, one of which being classic, single-player Marathon Tetris. It normally caps at 150 lines, but there is an option to keep going after that (though drop speed doesn't increase past level 15).

speaking of puyo puyo, I wish Sega would port over Hatsune Miku Project Mirai DX (that was on 3DS). I played that game soo much. id be willing to buy it again, easily. add a few new songs, a few old (good) ones, more songs with Super hard mode - and a very minor thing they could add is more button colors to whatever shade of color we want instead a couple extra that _aren't_ the default button colors. needs online play for both the mini games (puyo puyo was actually one of said mini games funny enough) and all the songs. I feel like I would've played for even longer if it had online or local multiplayer, which I felt was sorely needed. hell they could make use of the Nintendo app for invites or whatever. up to 4 players with the mini games and the songs; anymore and it'll be *way more* likely to lag, and would depend how the screen would be handled in the different modes. and also go online based whether you're a Beginner or Master of your choosing, that way you don't get stomped by someone is much much better or worse than you. it'd open up so many options.

I still don't understand why SEGA never released another Baku Baku Animal, which is probably second to Tetris/Columns. SEGA choosing Tetris over its own Columns is a bit of an odd move. Played the demo, can't say I rate Puyo Puyo. At a push, it's a £20 game, but sells for around £40.

Tbh its 100 dollars and if you have a discount price for anywhere (except gamestop) you can get it cheaper. I got it because of how cool it was when I got stuck on this one AI opponent who I couldn't beat. I chalked it up to bad devlopers but then went back with a new strategy to win. Compared to mario kart where I always win unless I get unlucky :P
