Puzzling Out Quad Exhaust (Jetta Mk7 Build, Ep 5)

Now that we've got more power out of the Jetta with software, it's time for some mechanical upgrades! We're installing an axle-back dual exhaust with quad tips from ECS Tuning. But we aren't doing things quite by the book. The instructions clearly state you need an SEL Premium or R-Design bumper to work. We'd rather not spend another $500 when it seems like our SE bumper should work just fine. The catch is, that means Dave with a jigsaw. Speaking of jigsaws, there's some confusion on just how our three piece puzzle gets assembled in the first place.

Would you ever try to retrofit the GLI/SEL headlights onto your SE trim? Will definitely give it more of a GLI look from an aesthetic perspective, as you mentioned you were trying to build your own GLI with the SE trim.

How much was the rear diffuser and the axle back exhaust? I have a 21S and am working on mods for it. So far I have the AEM Intake and the JB4 Tuner.

@@BackyardDude I have the base model and I was thinking instead of getting a SEL or R-Line rear bumper I could just cut out that part below the sliver line of the rear bumper. I think it should work what are your thoughts???

Should have added some nice mufflers with dual spouts. Would also have made it legal in all states/ Canada.

So the original rear bumper is a s bumper? You mentioned that it's actually a SE bumper? I have this exhaust and I was looking on how to fabricate my rear bumper and I have a S model. So all I need to do is make those same cuts you guys did? Also your videos are pretty funny and awesome!!! Keep up the great work.

Thanks for the comment! Yes, the S and SE (and SEL without the premium package) should have the same bumper design. If you cut a little less than the trim line we followed you should have a closer fit. (Try not to cut the holes holding the silver trim on as the diffuser will mount in those.) A couple places the saw crept up and we had to do a little patch work on it. Take a conservative wildman approach and you should be fine!

Thanks! We have the MK7 Jetta Quad Exit Axle-Back Exhaust System - With Carbon Fiber Rear Diffuser & 3.5" Black Chrome Tips by ECS Tuning. Looks like the model number is: 027365ECS01-02KT. There are a few versions with different tip colors and diffuser materials as well.

Unfortunately my SEL bumper (not SEL Premium) is the same as yours. They made the SEL Premium bumper the same as the R line bumper with the fake exhaust tips. So I’ll definitely have to rig my bumper like you guys! Also, do you guys just have a piggyback tune and the exhaust now? Or have you guys installed an aftermarket intake on the Jetta too? Love the videos and love everything you guys are doing!! Thanks!

How did you mount up the diffuser just from the bracket? Cause I’m trying to order the same thing for my car but I’m not trying to buy an r or sel bumper

Hi Aka Karma, The work we did is not spelled out in the video. Once we removed the chrome strip piece from the original (SE) bumper. We notice that the built-in snap clips on the diffuser lined up for the most part with the open slots on the bumper where the chrome piece snapped-in, but we had to make some small modifications to the slots! Then it was a matter of cutting the bumper to the shape of the diffuser, and not cutting off too much. I hope this is helpful :)
