One aspect that shocks me about how Rockstar handled the RDO situation is that for a company that concerns so much about return on investment, they left money on the table by stopping their support of RDO.

Base of operations on a riverboat to plan and execute heists alone or with friends with purchasable upgrades like private poker games, private ammo shop, private weapon shop, and so on. 4. Mexico 5. Moar horses, including holiday themed ones like a ghostly horse for Halloween. 6. Finish the story mode with a mission to kill the last target in Sisika prison. 7. Vehicles like carts, armored carts, Gatling gun carts and so on. 8. Guarma map and Gun runner role. 9. Moar weapons from around the world like the martini rifle, European pistols, Mexican rifles, and others. 10. The Riverboat heist with Dutch so that we finally know what happened.

I really like the role system. They could still do so much with it. The biggest problem with RDO is the extreme focus on pvp. The fact that you can't do pretty much anything without the risk of other players screwing with you is a major drawback for casual players. You know, the people with full time jobs, lives and, most importantly, money to spend. I've played a lot of FO76 and once they got away from the pvp, the game started to get a LOT better.

I agree, I don’t want to get shot 24/7, I want to be a naturalist and explore the huge map on my horse. Plus, getting gold bars are extremely difficult for me, heck, even just regular money is hard to get! Maybe I’m just awful at the game, but everything feels so expensive.
@Lordoftheapes79 Жыл бұрын
@@lemonshobbies it gets super easy if you can maintain your streak and even easier once you unlock a few roles to make gold. Also, do NOT neglect your treasure maps. Most maps will get you $1-2 and they're unique...ish. You can only carry one of each at a time. There are a couple exceptions, but I think those are from the tutorials. As for regular $$? Collector. There's a lot of nuance to it now, only certain sets are completely available every day, others have varying levels of randomness to them. I'll make about $1000/day just collecting as I do other stuff and visiting Madame Nazaar every few days to cut down my large stacks. Then, I'll occasionally hunt down the specific collectables to complete sets when I have one or two left.

I remember when the roles first came out a friend and I were figuring out the camp upgrade with Cripps. We were stacking the horses to full, but noticed even though the donations bar was full, it still let us donate, and I was still getting XP upgrading for the role. We wound up maxing it in like and hour or two tops. I told everyone else how I leveled mine to max, and it never worked for anyone else upgrading the role. The market for GTA is significantly bigger meaning much higher sales for the company, on top of that GTA online is filled with Shark Cards and other micro transactions that make Rockstar millions of dollars. Pooling money into RDR2 on the other hand will give Rockstar little revenue in comparison so from a business standpoint it makes much more sense to let it die.

I think Maggie (in the Moonshiner story) was definitely one of the best characters introduced into RDO. The whole Land of Opportunities story was okay, but I think it didn't really cause players to be invested as the story was really Jessica's story, rather than the players. With Maggie, we were given the back story, but were more involved and immersed in bringing her enemies to justice. It also rounded off nicely and then, of course, we were left with the Moonshiner role, so there is that link which is ever present in the game, whereas Land of Opportunities is largely forgotten about. Excellent video and despite Rockstar pretty much abandoning us faithful Red Dead players, I still have a great fondness for the game and do enjoy dipping into it from time to time. As for story mode - I think it is probably the best I have ever played, and having played it through at least three times now, I still feel the emotions from the game - the transition from the relatively fun and carefree nature of the gang at the start - despite the seriousness of their predicament - to the collapsing of gang loyalties and the ultimate almost unravelling of Dutch's sanity toward the end is compelling and almost disturbing as the game reaches its conclusion.

I get that they have “limited resources “ and developing grand theft auto 6 can’t be easy but the whole reason they have money to do that is because of the pay to win gold bars they got tons of people to buy.. even I spent money on gold bars a time or two. They basically wanted us to just keep giving them our money without them giving us anything in return and that’s not right. Rockstar creates some amazing worlds but as a whole they are really shady. In fact a major part of the player base had enough to buy all the new content for the foreseeable future which gave Rockstar little reason to invest.
@Sirrizz Жыл бұрын
The fact that we never got an Undead Nightmare 2 dlc or even some sort of update or events for RDO is such a missed opportunity. Its literally just a case of if Rockstar cant monetize the absolute shit out of something they wont commit regardless of player demand.

I don't expect an answer to this post and maybe it might even be strange. I'm playing the game in 2023 to complete Online. The weird catch is that I want to do it all in content release order. Could you at least go into more specifics of what was available in the original version of Red Dead Online? You said there was the Land of Opportunity missions and Stranger missions? It sounds like half of the story missions were in the game. What were the originals and which ones were added in the next update from base? Also, can you remember what Free Roam or PVP modes were legitimately put into the original version and do you think you can remember the added in ones?

What made this not so empty and alot of fun for me was teaming up with other players. I could get on and solo and enjoy it but it got MEH easily. But me and my ex played this heavily and eventually made a lot of friends off of it and with a full posse we could do missions easily fending off greifers. Once the new trades came out and we could escort wagons from A to B it was even more fun because the whole map roster would ambush us and we'd crush them. Best moments.

I totally feel you, I tried to have a role-playing structure /gang posse, we were deep like that, struggling to get all of our friends online because we had too much, attracted wo many random didn't know who to trust , strangly and ironically same thing happened in gta5 back on 2013 , so I had my buddies base their characters from gta into this game but as their ancestors, the idea actually was catching on and all these dudes had backgrounds and everyone was unique and different, only few were the same, man long story short, it's one of the most greatest feelings of online gaming, the type of power we had a.d still trying not to be a grief posse was the biggest challenge , trying to groom fools and keep em in line was a waste of time butost did listen because they saw the potential we had, even other large posses would ride with us sometimes because they seen how much of a threat we was, I'm pissed I didn't get to record all of it, barely was able to find a few vids, so it all ain't just some bull, but trust me please, now my character is a old man riding around helping and joining random posses when invited

I remember seeing a video called "NO CLICKBAIT! FIRST HUGE GOLD GLITCH IN RDO!". I watched it and went home and put a cart on top of a treasure chest. It allowed the player to infinitely take the contents of the treasure chest for as long as the cart wheel was placed correctly. I earned over 1000 gold bars in 1 hour. I figure for as long as my favorite developer expects me to pay to win, I'm going to cheat to win, and I'll look to do the same in gta6 in the first 6 months where glitches will most likely be found and patched within 24 hours. We warned them things were priced unreasonable, and they wouldn't listen, so if you can't beat em, i say cheat em! Seeing how they nerfed the daily challenges that I loved it turned out to have been a preemptive strike.

Red Dead Online died because it didn't work like they hoped. Rockstar was looking to make billions from microtransactions like GTA Online, but RDO didn't attract the type of players GTA did. RDO is a slow-paced, slow traveling, wide open natural vistas, weapons limited by technology, no flying horses with guided missiles. The target players found RDO boring, slow and empty. The people who love the game love the pace and the environment. They don't mind doing the work for the money and gold. Its very chill. They don't care about flexing cosmetics. They don't buy Gold Bars. And so Rockstar don't care. There really isn't much they could add to attract the people they want without ruining the game anyways. It would take adding alllll the stuff that makes GTA bad, cus that stuff appeals to children, idiots and griefers: The core of Rockstar's customer base.

You unintentionally helped my gaming experience, massively. I used to play on the PS4 a few years back and recently, I just bought a new gaming PC and since I've been playing, the game just didnt feel right or look as good and I couldn't pinpoint why. Everything just felt... dry and dusty, if that makes sense. I just happened to notice how vibrant your colors were and... boom, it hit me. It was my PC's default color settings! I changed some settings and now every game I play is more vibrant than ever. Everything is looking so good. A thumbs up for that! You da man.

This felt like a walk down memory lane. I loved the Online side of RDR1 with the forever echoing "Gang Shootout" standoff for the PvP game modes which were fun, then Outlaws To The End and constantly added content. I didn't get to play in the RDO BETA but I was abusing my PS4 playing Online without PS+ so I could get the trophies (missed 1-2) for my Platinum. I joined Discord groups and got to really enjoy the experience before switching to PC. As you described, it's such a shame how this game with a hell of a lot of potential just went to waste. The players I've spoken with don't want PvP content. We wanted Rancher roles like John does, we wanted Horse Rustling/Stable roles, Bank or Train Heists, further role expansions, our own properties. We even wanted them to finish the Land Of Opportunities story, especially now that so many have discovered that Mrs LeClerk IS referenced in the Single Player story! For those who didn't know, have Arthur donate $10 to the woman in Saint Denis for the Veteran's Building then view the plaque as John in the Epilogue. It will say "Mr and Mrs LeClerk" a short way below Arthur's name. But... Rockstar joined the bandwagon of corporate company greed. Ignoring their fan base, not bothering to fix their broken content, not investing in a stable anti-cheat system (even free games like Fortnite and Fall Guys have one) and instead they go for cash grab antics, milking one game and abandoning the rest, slap the faces to RDR fans with the copy-paste RDR1 instead of a remaster and as TGG pointed out in a video the day I put this, Rockstar's CEO gets a doubled salary and went against what the company put in a statement back in 2021 to VGC; "What we've done differently than the competition is that we don't just port our title's, we actually take the time to do the very best job we can making the title different for the newer technology that we're launching on." ...so what are you doing with a 13 year old game being released to the "modern" PlayStation console? Sorry, I'm one very disappointed Red Dead fan right now...

I stopped playing RDO around the start of 2020. I was making plenty of money, but there was nothing to spend it on. There was also a huge lack of activities to keep the game fun. RDO became extremely boring and pretty frustrating too due to R* completely ignoring the fanbase. Like, people have been asking for properties for years now, R* still hasn't added them and probably never will. Personally, I wanted to see cars in the game. People have pointed out that the cars of the time were slower than horses, but I don't care. It'd just be another way to get around the map and a bit of a novelty.

This is a really nice post mortem of sorts of a video for RDO. I just recently finished RDR2 (easily one the best single player games ever made) and I am a veteran of GTA Online so I hopped on to see what RDO is about. GTA Online isn't all that good but it can be quite chill and I was expecting something similar. Unfortunately, what I found was even worse than what I expected. It was a... salvageable experience but since I am on PC the cheaters really just drove it home for me and I lasted for about a whole of 5 hours before just quitting. I have my ways of dealing with modders/cheaters in GTA Online but the way RDO is made it's frustrating to use those tools. I'm glad that somebody made a video detailing how it got to where it is
