Since playing Turboprop Flight Simulator (cos yeah I can't fit MS flight sim on my phone) I have been more interested in how these machines work and there's a lot more to them as I keep learning. Apart from understanding the condition levers and the meaning of 'Beta Range' the engines themselves the inner workings are the things that get me the most. The PT6A series was a leap in knowledge for me and now the PW100 series. Quite clever with that 3 shaft system. As much as I love piston engines I am so impressed at how they squeeze so much more power into such a compact unit.

Diffuser pipes deliver LP air to HP turbine then to combustion chamber fully annular reverse flow. Ignited by 14 combustion cans that drives HP spool first followed by LP spool and free turbine last. Free turbine speed is regulated by PEC to maintain constant propeller speed. Turbine:properller ratio is 16:1. HP spool powers Accessory gearbox while free turbine drives reduction gearbox

Great video. Do you know how to rotate the HPT blade during BSI? when the engine is off. HP spool is connected to drive gear, and DC gen gear is the only one that can rotate the HP spool.

I was working at P&W C in the early 1980 when they developped the PT-7. . who turned into the new coding PT. . . .In the brand new test Cell , there were "witness marks" of the problems they had with certain parts that were failling in the developpment process. . Many small nicks in the concreete walls and a steel plate covering the 1 inch thick tempered glass viewing window. . And a rumor of a bent propeller blade following a hasty throttle move with ons blade attached to the test bench. . Then 1981 arrived and we went to working 6 days a week to 4 days a week and a good proportion of our friends got laid off and never returned. . 😪, , This was the first Monetary system crash, that happenned every decade since and , in witch we we are right now. . And all of them are system generated . . .
