Highly informative. Check on insulated tanks and insulated blinds or even heavy plastic for windows, and get more lights- LED lighting? Haven't decided which 16ft Deluxe model to get, but definitely leaning towards this with the bath and gorgeous oak wood! The newer models have options for all the features I want. HAVE to have A/C, heat, a microwave, sleep for four, and an awning! I love that they keep their value, and I understand about the wait list, but believe, it's well worth the wait. Thanks for being honest, and keeping it Real! ❤️

Love this video. Did you do anything to help maximize the storage space in the lower cupboard with the wheel well in it? For the storage under our Scamp bed I found 4 rectangular laundry bins that fit perfectly- 2 in front and 2 to the back. Just hook together the front and back bins so you can pull out the two at once to give easier access to the back bin.

When you go looking for a four season trailer, be sure it's 0°/100° certified. Some manufacturers will call their trailers a four season unit, but if it isn't 0°/100° certified it isn't a true four season trailer. These trailers do tend to be a bit heavier, so that's something to keep in mind if you plan on keeping the Cherokee.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
we will keep that in mind- thanks for the tip! It is a long term plan, but we would like to do some traveling in Canada & Alaska in the future and were thinking a good 4 season truck camper would be the best rig for that setting - but that is far off in the future

🤔um….at 1:26 there’s a Sasquatch outside your window for a second! 🙈 😹 Nice 😊 job with your tour. I’m looking for a 5th wheel Scamp. (Right now we have a 1990 29 ft Holiday Rambler Aluma Lite and I love it but I need to get something smaller it’s difficult to find locations for renting a spot long term 😌.) Great video. I am impressed with your follow up in comments. I found a Scamp for a super good price and wonder if it is a hoax. Motel rates have gone up! Hopefully we get it! We have a 26 foot trailer sailor and it is 7000 lbs. The truck will pull it but it is a pain. I would not feel 2000 lbs back there. We have so much stuff that would be interchangeable with the Scamp. I bet there is a video out there about winterizing it yourself. I bet throwing some moving blankets on top at night in the cold would help. Most heat escapes upward.

we love to watch videos about RVs & we still agree that the Scamp is best for us right now given the weight & layout. We may eventually upgrade to something like an Oliver or Escape...or maybe just a newer model Scamp - but right now we are very happy to have this scamp & yes it has gotten very expensive to stay in hotels or even airbnb! makes us like camping even more 😁

Very happy I found you! Three years ago we inherited the same year model, but the deluxe version with a microwave and air conditioner. We have the fan over the bed and we do use it more often than the air conditioner. Unfortunately my husband is on the taller side and frequently bumps his head on the air conditioner. Totally agree with you it would be nice to have outside access to the storage under the bed! I noticed you have lounge chair cushions on the side dinette chairs. We struggle with making these comfortable. Also, did you have a full cover over your shower drain in the bathroom? Thanks for your wonderful video. I subscribed and look forward to seeing your other videos. 😊
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin Жыл бұрын
It is a fun little trailer, but it is a tricky setup for a taller person- not much headroom! I took a memory foam mattress and cut it to re-stuff the cushions. It is so much more comfortable now. The scamp foam is very firm- we never wanted to sit on it. (I did a video on that if you go back to last fall when we were doing some renovations in the tiny house & scamp). I made a plastic cover for the shower pan to try to keep the dirt out of the drain- it worked well for a while, but I am looking for a better option as that shower drain pump is very picky. I will have a few updated videos & projects on the Scamp in the next several weeks so stay tuned 😊👍 Enjoy your Scamp!!

What brand and color of white paint did you use on the cabinets/doors/trim? Looks like a perfect match to the fiberglass.
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
that was some left over bathroom paint that I had from a project in the tiny house- I cant remember the exact color I picked (maybe just a normal white?), but it was designed to stand up to high humidity environments so I thought it would be good in an RV 👍

I like your enthusiasm about your little camper :>) I noticed you said you said you couldn't tell if the refrigerator was lit... That era of Dometic should have an ignitor... is the 12v power hooked up to the refrigerator? Just a cheap thought... Those refrigerators can be the greatest thing since transparent windows :>) :>) :>)
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Don, we love our little camper- it has been so much fun working on it & traveling with it. The fridge is hooked up to the 12v, but most of the time we run it off the propane because it gets colder faster that way- having a fridge really is one of the best parts about having a camper 👍
@donr6499
@donr6499 3 жыл бұрын
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Sorry for the confusion... the 12v power should make the little indicator on the front of the refrigerator blink if the flame goes out... so you can tell from inside when the flame goes out. And, they make little fans to circulate the air past the back of the refrigerator to help it cool too. Next time you have the access panel off the camper make sure it's all nice and open up to the upper/roof vent. The better air it can get in back, the better it cools :>) I saw the comment on the little fan for the inside. I haven't gotten one of those yet but I'm thinking I'll give it a try, but I always try to limit how much the door is open so mine stays plenty cool. Enjoy your camper!!!
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
@@donr6499 humm we dont have an indicator light on the front of the fridge- maybe because it is an older model. Ours just has a tiny little window that you peer into to see if the pilot is lit & it is very challenging to see in the daylight. I have a feeling there will be a fridge upgrade at some point in the future
@donr6499
@donr6499 3 жыл бұрын
@@LetNewAdventuresBegin Sounds like you're missing a cover in the back that shades the little tube so you can see the flame. More Cheap advice :>) I'd skip replacing your fridge for a little while. All the import stuff is goofed up right now (Tarrifs, etc.). There is a RV refrigerator replacement table and it makes your life much easier if you get the one that directly replaces your old one. It will only take minutes to pull out the old and slide in the new. Or, if you want to change size, make sure you get one with the EXACT same width (as listed on the table). If you have room above the fridge you can rebuild the hole for a taller model but it's important to get the same width and manufacturer. Rebuild the hole first so you know how tall you can go (with the table in hand so you know what model you can build for). Your camper has a curved in sides so you may not be able to go as tall as you'd like. Either way, you really have to go with the same make (Dometic, etc.) so it will fit. Each company has it's own dimensions and connections. Until then, you should be able to download the manual for your fridge and it will show the parts breakdown and see if you're missing a little metal cover piece surrounding the flame. You can make one out of sheet metal from the cheapest piece steel duct from the hardware store and a nail to punch the screw holes :>) There's nothing better than a camper with good working appliances :>)

it is a 2012 with the lower trim package so it is lighter, they have an option for real wood that increases the weight, and I am sure they have changed the appliances a bit which may also have added weight to the newer models

Lucky me is about to purchase a Scamp 16ft that my brother owned. He sold it to a family friend that I am purchasing it from. I'm moving up from my 1970s Burro 13ft. I'm wondering what LED bulbs you used to retrofit your lights. And a tip for you. My brother installed a very small fan inside the fridge. It is mounted at the cooling coils. It circulates the air inside the fridge over those coils and makes the fridge much more efficient. I'll be looking at more of your videos.

David, that is very lucky- Scamps are hard to find! but the 1970 Burro sounds really cool too! the LED bulbs were ordered from Scamp- you can get any replacement parts you need from them & you know it will fit. That is a good idea with the fan 👍 we are always looking to do little upgrades like that- thanks for the idea!

Very good, and enlightening! We have a 2010 13' scamp and can identify with a lot of your pros and cons (I was laughing out loud at the end, when you spoke of the difficulty to see the pilot light during the day on the LP refrigerator ignitor) The 13' is a little small for us, and we may look to get a 16' like yours... wanna trade?

they are fun little campers! I guess that is one perk of getting to a campground after dark- easier to see the fridge pilot light 😂 Ive been told the newer models have an upgraded fridge that is easier to turn on 😁 we love the 16' layout, but wish the bed was a bit bigger because Mr. Redford likes to stretch out his legs (& does not even consider the idea of sleeping on the floor 🐶)

Hi! Thanks for the video, very useful info:) Just one question.. You said the Scamp wouldn't really work for people over 6ft, but site says the interior height was 6"3'. Is that not accurate? Or is it a short 6"3'? haha. Thanks!
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Joshua, I wonder if they increased the interior height on the newer models as I know that was a concern for many people- ours is a 2012 and I dont think it would be super comfortable for a taller person because of the bed size, the bathroom ceiling and the door height, but I do know some taller people that make it work- they just have to watch the head room 👍

It is incredibly hard finding a used scamp for sale. Which tells me they are very durable and people that buy them tend to keep them for a long long time. That being said would buying a new one be worth it? I would be looking at a 16 foot
@LetNewAdventuresBegin
@LetNewAdventuresBegin 3 жыл бұрын
they are hard to find- we looked for years and had to make a quick decision when we found one. If you have the money to invest in a new one & are ok with a waiting period to get it I think buying new would be a good idea- they have upgraded many of the issues I talk about in this video in the new models (better fridge, usb outlets...) and with a little care it could be something you have for many years

@@LetNewAdventuresBegin ya its the little things that make camping enjoyable like sleeping if you sleep and your comtorble but it took 15 min and you have two jump over and climb around some one two get comfy ... IF you get and use the restroom... makes a big deal as far as enjoyment...i love your camper i really wanted one of these when we first decided two camp but there outrages buying used... so i built a teardrop camper and as technology moves forward we sell them and build new ones with the good stuff that makes camping fun like solar power and more room for storage....there are infinite ways two make your expirance more fun and enjoyable...but a good knight sleep is hard two get a grip on.. the teardrops we looked at there were ones with 1 door.. so we settled on 2 no exceptions for the very same reasons....
