7:27 the goalie interference made complete sense. In the NHL they can’t seem to get it right but this one was pretty obvious. Puck don’t lie.

brutal, but right call. I’m surprised this was called a good goal on the ice by the front ref when the goalie interference was so obvious. If i’d seen this in a game i’d instantly wave it off and heise in the box for 2 min goalie interference.
@lordexorr5 ай бұрын
Obvious GI but no chance is that 2 minutes. She had the puck driving to the net and lost her edge. That’s just a waive off not enough for a penalty.
@flavinyl5 ай бұрын
@@lordexorr According to PWHL rules you're probably correct. The rule says " attacking player initiates intentional or deliberate contact with a goalkeeper", it's a fair argument that this wasn't intentional and she lost her edge. I guess it's a judgement call at that point. To me, it almost seems like the line she was skating would have resulted in contact with the goaltender rather or not she fell. And the rule book i ref with puts all responsibility on attackers to avoid contact with goaltenders. But we'll never know, maybe she could have made that sharp turn, she is Heise after all.
@lordexorr5 ай бұрын
@@flavinyl not really a judgement call because she had control of the puck. Had she not had control of the puck you can argue for 2 minutes but having the puck and driving the net and making contact with the goalie in that manner isn’t a penalty. Had she scored on her initial drive to the net the goal counts and no GI. GI is because she collided with the goalie after not scoring a goal and her teammate scored before the goalie could get back into position.
@flavinyl5 ай бұрын
@@lordexorr It totally is tho, it even says so in the rule book : "The rule [71.1 Interference on the Goalkeeper ] will be enforced exclusively in accordance with the on-ice judgement of the Referee". This rules don't differentiate rather or not the player has possession of the puck. If she'd scored before making contact yeah the goal would have been allowed, we've all seen plenty of goals like that. But if she'd score after making contact, even if she had possession and entered the crease "legally", it would be GI. Anyways, we agree on the GI call. As for the penalty, I think it hinges on the judgement of the official about rather or not the contact was intentional. And nothing else. Intension is a nebulous thing to infer as a ref. I'd argue contact was inevitable with the lane she took... But I can also see how it would be accidental as she was trying to cut back in front and score.

Why did Boston leave the ice so quickly?
@CaptainEnglehorn5 ай бұрын
Two reasons, one after game one Kendall Coyne Schofield and Hilary Knight (the two team captains) agreed their would not be a handshake until the end of the series. Two, they probably assumed with that goal being overturned them celebrating on ice would not be taken to kindly and so decided on a graceful exit stage right.

As disappointing as it was the goalie interference call was legit. What I struggled with was the officials swallowing their whistles on a couple blatant penalties. The officials failed to call Boston for literally horse collaring a MN player along the end boards late in regulation and ignored the trip on Boston in OT not long after MN had been called for a very similar trip. The way the power plays were going it may not have made a difference but the officials need to call it both ways.
