This camera is a game changer. Takes on the Canon 5d and Panasonic GH4, with great form factor, great image stabilisation, strong codecs, great sound and very strong price and the advantage of a big sensor. This is the ideal camera for what I do. Look forward to having one in my hot little hands. I'm hoping it was worth the wait.

wonderful Creative artists in this nice video, shot with Sony's best designed cam so far. It's amazing how video shot with a 4K sensor almost regardless of codec (10 vs 8 bit) still looks great on KZbin in 720 resolution.. Can't wait to get this one..

Game changer. A real video camera with larger sensor, 4:2:2, 10bit all at around $2000. Codec is good enough - the footage looks stunning. Gotta get one.

It's Sony's best Cam yet, that's for damn sure, I wish they were as good providing stability to Sony Vegas Pro since it's been my preferred NLE for years, V 13 and this CAM is the best yet.. :D

0:08 - Horrible interlace type streaking on feet area 0:24 - Sky blown out to hell. (bad DR) 1:57 - Again, bad blown out highlights (tried to disguise with turning object around fast) 3:00 - Obvious heavy chromatic aberration correction in post ( tree tips are gray ) 5:07 - No AF transition from back focus to face... it just didn't happen. Sony, the next time you want to make a showcase video, give it to someone who knows what the heck they are doing.

How to avoid blown out sky or overexposed whites? Is it just bad dynamic range?
@MsTessG7 жыл бұрын
With this camera (I own it), you almost HAVE to adjust black gamma/black level/knee point and slope to keep it from blowing out highlights. This is it's chief drawback. I have had satisfactory results making those adjustments. Adjust the black levels so you can underexpose a stop or so to help avoid the blown highlights and then bring the blacks back up in post.

nice looking image but the lens is pretty slow with fastest aperture @ 2.8. yuk! maybe if its really good in low light then a need for a faster lens becomes less important.

Noob question here, what is the advantage to these cam corders? Can they just record for a very long period of time? because my t3i with a 50-250mm is just about as good in quality as this. may even argue it's better. again noob question so please refrain from insults.

From my experience after using Canon DSLRs for video in the past few years (I now use camcorders and other cameras), DSLRs, especially Canon ones are not the greatest for video as they are photography cameras first with an added video mode. Your t3i can't record 10-bit or output 10-bit 4:2:2 like this camcorder can (As far as I know only one Canon camera when recording video, the C500 can record higher than 8-bit colors and the rest are restricted to 8-bit for some reason), 8-bit color gives you a color range of 0-255 whereas 10-bit color has a range of 0-1023 colors (At least I think that is how it is)) so you end up with more colors recorded on the video for a more natural looking video than 8-bit can produce, and for many broadcast situations 1920x1080 50mbps 10-bit 4:2:2 is often the basic standard requirement they are looking for videos. The t3i (which is what I have but I don't use it for videos any more) upscales video when recording 1080p from either 1728x972 or 1680x945 to get 1080p HD so you end up with 1920x1088 (8 extra pixels) and a softer looking video, whereas a camcorder like this, record proper 1920x1080 HD and if the lens is sharp enough, produce a sharper image as a result. It also can't record higher than 30p, so you don't have the option of having double that frame rate to get slower motion video. Also many DSLRs like your T3i (there are some exceptions like the Canon 5D MKIII, 7D MKII and Panasonic GH4) don't output a clean uncompressed signal via HDMI, whereas many camcorders, like this one do, so you won't be able to use an external recorder with your T3i to get a higher quality 4:2:2 video with a broadcast quality codec like DNxHD or Prores. I am not saying DSLRs are bad for video, but that other cameras can be better.

Interlaced, Long-GOP 50 Mbps sucks...4K upgrade will be a paid $500.00 option.. from my understanding... Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ1000, 100 Mbps, yes 8 bit 4.2.0 recording to sd BUT 100 Mbps $800.00.. Would like to see NASCAR recorder with both or the grass of a football game... This footage is all tripod and slow moving.. doesn't mean crap.. Although it does look nice.. Game changer... NOT YET...
@gerardocamposfilms10 жыл бұрын
Interlaced?? NOT, the camera is PROGRESIVE, and Long-GOP 50Mbs 422 10 bits is great for broadcasting and documentaries, even for digital cinema, or you think that 5DMKII have a better codec????, you are very wrong
@cbellaire10 жыл бұрын
Come on, at least 100 Mbps, 4 times 1080 25 Mbps... I never mentioned Canon at all...
@gerardocamposfilms10 жыл бұрын
Craig Bellaire sorry, Canon was in my brain only because many films used Canon cameras; I own the GH4 with the same or better codec than the FZ1000, and I must tell you that even the 50Mbs from my A7s is better than the one on the Panis cameras (Sony XAVC-S, 8bit 420), the Panasonic codec is large but not efficient, the XAVC-S at 50Mbs is like an 130Mbs or more from a codec like Pani use, so don't use only the numbers; diferent codecs acts in difernt ways, and XAVC is a fantástic codec

$ 500 for 4K capability with this Sony may be a well spent investment (remains to be seen). Still the concept of producing HD footage with a 4K sensor is outstanding, think of all the space it'll save on KZbin videos since 1080 only looks marginally better than 720? Also it's gutsy of Sony to release a firmware upgrade - 4K capable CAM, since it'll be hacked to pieces by "3'rd party" Firmware producers worldwide, great price on this one too.. :)
