Hello viewers! I would like to bring to your attention that there are currently a few issues with the Z190 at this point and time. I would suggest not making the purchase of the Z190 UNTIL Sony addresses the below issues: - Sony will need to fix the soft image produced by f/2.8 or lower f-number. - There has to be something done to the low light. I have used quite a few 1/3" sensor cameras that are much better in low light compared to the Z190. - The built-in SD card slot reader is producing several errors such as; "Media not exist" and the same old, "Media (A) Unsupported Filesystem". - Sometimes the camera will freeze up while attempting to format an SD card. Please keep these issues in mind before purchasing the Z190 or any new Sony camcorder as these will negatively affect your workflow.

I've been using this camera for a year and a half in tough outdoor conditions like snow as well as documentary work. I use it extensively on sets and green screen work. I think because I'm used to having good lighting situations I have not experienced any low light issues. The SDXC card slots have always worked well with 64 GB and 128 GB sizes with no issues at all. So far so good. Prior to this I was using the PMW 160. I also use the Panasonic GH4 in certain settings where a smaller camera is required.

I’m obsesssd with this camera... can you do a video on the Sony - Alpha a6000? It’s such a alluring camera!!! The lens is great! The zoom is great, and it’s the perfect size for anyone!

Well done. To people who are familiar with ENG cameras this is pretty standard stuff. How does this compare to the old 180? In colour science and low light?

Hello Gerald, Comparing the Z190 to the X180, there are a few differences. Low light on the X180 is supposedly better than the Z190. At least based on my experience with the X180. The X180 offers a bigger selection of codecs and includes Sony's XAVC-I codec for intra-frame compression. Color science on the X180 is different from the Z190. Colors do look a lot more true on the X180. The Z190 has a strange magenta-orange tinge in the shadows. This makes something like green foliage look less saturated and video-like. Actually, the Z190 is more comparable to the X160 in the end. As for the X180, I would compare that to something like the Z280.

Hello. I just received the camera and thus far have a major issue regarding the SD card slot. The SD cards do not work AT ALL. I keep receiving error messages such as "Media not exist" and the same old, same old, "Media (A) unsupported filesystem". I've tried everything from formatting the cards on the camera, computer and even wiped them clean of magnetic data. I've tried multiple card brands such as Sandisk, PNY and Kingston. All three cards work on my Sony A7III with no problem whatsoever. Upon further research, it appears this problem is common. I've seen multiple product reviews, questions and forum posts regarding this issue. If you have a solution to this problem, please tell me! Thanks.

Hello, That is very strange you mention that as the cards have stopped working on my unit as well. Sony really NEEDS to look into this issue. I have tried installing their Catalyst Browse software as recommended by the Sony 'Pro', that doesn't seem to work, however. They told me the camera is very sensitive to file system changes that happen on the card whilst playing around with the files. I think that Sony should make this a top priority fix because this is a $3800 investment! I feel as if Sony releases products WAY too soon. Too soon as to where no issues are looked at from the start.

Cyggie Productions Wow, okay! I was really hoping the Z190 would work as a 'B' cam alongside my A7III as I needed a video camera counterpart. I just love the features the camera has to offer, it does feel very video-like. I may end up returning the Z190 if Sony doesn't sort this out soon. I may even swap it out for an FS7mk2 for higher-end production work. What are your opinions on that camera? (Of course, f you know it well enough). I just thought the Z190 would be a great option as it was inexpensive for what it had to offer... oh well!

Hi! Although I can't exactly speak for the FS7ii (because I have never even layed hands on one), I can say that from the camera footage and reviews, it looks like a great high-end production camera. With that being said, I would recommend looking into the FS5 instead if you haven't already. The FS5 looks like a great camera (as it has great reviews and footage), and is much cheaper than the FS7ii. You can also record RAW for a lot cheaper (with an external recorder) than the FS7ii. Maybe even look into upgrading your A7iii a bit with the cost of the FS7ii?!?! Maybe some good lights, a microphone, rig cage, and tripod if you haven't got good gear for it already? It just seems like a lot to spend on a camera body when Sony could have easily pulled the price down by a couple of thousand because of the time it has been on the market. Then again, you decide what you think you'd like/need best.

​Cyggie Productions So I've found myself returning to this post as I need help with a lens choice. I did end up purchasing the FS7ii as I think it pulls in a little more for the price than the FS5. Yes, it's more money, but I've found it very useful in terms of a great video production camera. The real question is, which lens should I compliment my FS7ii with? I bought the body only and am looking at the 28-135 G and the 18-110 G lenses. They both look great and I've read a lot of forum posts, but I need help deciding between the two. I've seen lots of people on forums talk about the fact that the 18-110 being the new 'rip-off' lens succeeder to the 28-135. With that said, I am kind of trapped between the two and would like some help. Thanks!

Hi Raul Rooma, thank you for your comment. 4K is great but really just relies on HDR for amazing highlight recovery (HLG). I would say that Sony’s mirrorless camera line (such as the alpha series) produce a way better 4K image. They do, however, have much bigger sensors that are able to capture more data. With that being said, this camcorder produces a way better 4K image in bright light. That, in my opinion, is where this camera thrives.

Hi Raul Rooma, I will be uploading some 4K samples very soon. I have found that adding sharpening in post-production helps with the 4K quite a bit. I am pretty sure the reason being is because the camcorder doesn't feature in-body sharpening, so the images come out looking rather unsharpened. The video does come out looking very video-like and not something you'd see on let's say, a mirrorless camera. I do agree with your opinion on the noise, however. It does tend to produce a lot of noise (even more so in lower resolution & framerates). I would say that the more hours you put on the camera, the less overall noise the image will have. By doing this, you are wearing in the sensor, allowing it to be less noisy at higher dBs. Please let me know if you have any other questions, and I'll be glad to answer them :)

@@outlawproductions2228 BTW You find so called sharpening in menu, its called detail. You must enable it. minus value is less detail plus value adds it. But i fund that my 4k recordinf is sharp enough....if im reducing detail level im also reducing little bit noise ..but i also posted to fb group some still images from 4k and full hd recordings.4 k is very noisy and blocky compared to full hd..

Yes, that is true, sharpening does develop more noise because you are crispening those same pixels. I don't use the paint menu so I didn't know the Z190 had a built-in detail tool. I've known that my A7Sii had that feature since I got it, just not the Z190. I'd rather keep my detail at +0, as I think that is a perfect middle-ground. Strange that the noise on your camera is worse in 4K, I've found that Full HD is worse on my end. It may also be the framerates we are shooting on that are affecting the noise. 18dB seems completely unusable. I do think that Sony should have done way better with the low-light on this camera. Maybe add some more sensor backlight in a future software update? I will also be posting some low light footage vs the A7Sii (low light monster) for comparison.

Hello there PenutButterSlimez, I would suggest that you do NOT purchase a Z190 at this point and time. There is a major issue with the SD card slot currently that affects the proper ability to record footage onto the cards. As it is software related, there will always be a fix in the future, but it seems as Sony is pretty slow with their broadcast camera line currently. I would suggest either waiting it out (if you really like what it has to offer), or look into other cameras. Please let me know why you are currently interested in ENG style cameras, thanks!

​ Cyggie Productions what kind of camera would u recommend looking into? I like the eng camera style cause of all the features... I have looked into other cameras such as canons DSLRs, Sonys mirrorless and some nikons. not sure about the Nikon though cuz it isnt really for video tbh... anyway, I liked the z190 cause of the attached zoom lens, I would be filming slime videos, and dont have a very good setup atm so I kinda need to film far from my setup away from the clutter. would also be using the camera for my makeup reviews. I need good closeups and saw the z190 has macro capabilities

Hi there @@zoexroleplays6582, I can definitely agree with you on your opinion of the ENG-style cameras. They are dead-center focused on video, nothing else. Great features, and for a lot of them, great versatility. I can, however, say that for what it seems you are trying to film, I think a Sony a6300 DSLR would be a perfect choice. They are very inexpensive and produce a great 4K for the price. There are also many cheap macro lenses out there that produce great images and are great for close-ups! I would also suggest cleaning up most of the clutter around your filming area that you can and purchase a tripod that has an articulating arm. This way, you can get a perfect overhead shot, as well as easily being able to switch between overhead and ground-level shooting. I hope this helps!
