This is my review and demonstration of the Pyramid Phoenix personal bowling ball revivor / bowling ball oven. After my review I demonstrate a low cost and better performing DIY bowling ball oven.
UPDATE: I paid $169 for this and returned it via Amazon, getting my money back. I see now they are charging $269?!? What a world.

I just got the Phoenix Revivor (from Amazon) and have done a couple tests and it did work. Without a ball in it the temp. reached 153° before the end on the 30min. cycle. With a ball in it the temp. was 151° and there was oil on the ball surface. I think the one you got may have been defective in some manner the internal temp. should have been higher. Or it's because you have it sitting on the carpet which blocked the intake vents. Now I have had a DIY one for years I made from a magic chef dehydrator and a bucket,( As far as I know it was the first one ever posted in the online bowling forums). It reached a max. temp of 125° after a longer time period which would get oil out if the ball was heavily oil soaked, So at the 115°-120° you got there I think you would have seen some oil had the ball been oil soaked. But With lighter amounts of oil in the surface, the slowly building up lower temps don't seem to work as effectively as a higher fast building one like the hair dryer. The problem with rapid high temps though is the rapid expansion of the coverstock material could cause a problem ie: possible cracking.

maybe different, my oven has a 100 degree "warm" feature. 10 minutes in there with a well used reactive ball and it is usually covered in oil. I can wipe it, put it back in the oven several times over the course of 1/2 hour and keep getting oil out of it. Same if I leave my stuff in the car on a hot day or even if I place it in the sun behind my sliding glass doors.

You may have gotten a bad one. Mine leaves a puddle of oil on the bottom. I have noticed that older bowling balls put out more oil than the new ones. Maybe new ones don't absorb as much. I searched and found your video because I was wanting to know if the ball needed to be cleaned before it was flipped over because there is so much oil on the surface. I bowl three to four times per week and clean my equipment with this machine weekly. I can't believe there was a time when I never cleaned my stuff.

R Snow I’m glad it works for you! You should spray some ball cleaner on the ball and wipe off the oil and then put it back in the device for the 2nd half hour session.

I have an Innovative Personal Revivor that has worked great, had to replace the temp sensor on it but it was easy and they are cheap. Has worked great for years.

Don't get it man. Just got the phoenix. One 30 min cycle and first ball was covered in oil. Must have got a bad heating element you have there. Mine is very warm.

In the past I've also tried the "NuBall" by Salmon Creek, with identical results.

158 degrees is not recommended for extracting oil out of a ball. Can ruin coverstock and plasticizers on ball. From what I have read no higher than 135 degrees is recommended.

158F degrees? .. are you freaking kidding me? .. you are going to absolutely DESTROY the plasticizer of the ball at that temperature !! .. you should NEVER get above 130F, absolute maximum. I wouldn't even go above 125F .. anything more than that and you are going to severely decrease the lifespan of your bowling ball. 158F is absolutely nuts!

That’s what the readout on the revivor said. You can’t adjust it. In reality it didn’t get the ball above 90 at the most

@@toddolsen1390 - well, that's good .. well, at least it didn't get that hot, but 90F probably didn't help much either. I caution a lot on these videos because a lot of people don't realize how deliquiate the coverstock on these balls is to temperature. The polymers used for these things has to be taken care of carefully if you want to prolong their lives. Polymers, especially with plasticizers, breakdown easily and will then harden. I try to educate people to this as I would like to see them preserve their balls as long as they can. Bowling balls have become quite expensive, especially with drilling and any accessories included like finger grips, interchangeable thumbs (both things I am a HUGE fan of). Gotta keep your balls working in top top shape for as long as you can.
