That was intense and a beautiful area! No water like that in Florida. But that perspective cam was the first time I really understood how these play boats react to the different water! Super cool

My first reactions were the same...woo who and giggles. I love my ripper but it's definitely got a sibling on the way.

Been watching you for awhile now. I have a house at the New Jersey shore. I'm looking for a kayak to take in the ocean. Just for fun. I'm looking for something stable. I'm a bigger (230), older (61) guy. I want something for me and my guests to take out on calm days to have a little fun. What do you recommend?

At your weight do you think the tail of the large ripper 2 would still be playful? Without paddling them, I'm guessing this might be the route to go for people that might want to paddle harder whitewater in them. What do you think?

Good q! That’s what I did with the old ripper (got the large to take it on bigger water), which worked quite well. My only though would be that the bow volume is increased quite substantially on the 2, to the point where the medium felt as spacious, if not more spacious, than the cockpit in my large Ripper 1. I haven’t paddled the large Ripper 2 yet, but I did get a chance to put my hands on a couple of them at Dave’s warehouse and the cockpit and bow volume seemed very generous while the stern seemed quite spicy still. I think I’d end up feeling really loose in the large even with a lot of outfitting, and that the modest increase in stern volume wouldn’t make it worthwhile. I have paddled the 2 on some class IV drops recently (Flume and Shipherd falls on the Lower Wind) and my only takeaway was that the difference between leaning far forward, being upright, and leaning back is more noticeable in this boat than anything I’ve ever paddled. Move the seat and yourself all the way forward and I think you’d be keyed in for some sh*trunnin.

The 2L is a big boat. I demoed it and at 75kg I could still stern stall it, but ergonomically it is very large, and very different to the 1L

@@jamesshort6856 which do you prefer between R1 and R2 large and why? Anything the R2 doesn’t outperform on apart from speed? How about stability running harder stuff

Hi! There are rumors the 2 does not surf as well as the original. I have the original ripper large and love the way it surfs. Could you comment on this since you already have the ripper large? Love your videos.Thanks!
@HeadwatersKayak
@HeadwatersKayak Жыл бұрын
I don't know that there will ever be another half slice that surfs as well as the original Ripper honestly. I haven't had the Ripper 2 on any big waves yet, and I think that's where the most noticeable difference would be (particularly ocean waves). I'd describe the Ripper 2 as a little looser and a tiny bit slower, but still a great carving machine. Ultimately the improved comfort, rocker, and ease of squirting outweigh the difference in surfing performance to me.

Which would you rather take down these sections of the White Salmon, the Ripper 2 M, the Super Nova, or an Ozone? Would you feel comfortable with the Ripper 2 M on Canyon Creek, the Upper Wind, the Farmlands, or Truss? At what flows?
@HeadwatersKayak
@HeadwatersKayak Жыл бұрын
Hey Brooks, great question. It just so happens that I’ve been spending a lot of time this summer in all three of those boats on the WS. When there’s more water in the river (over 2 feet, where the flow was when I shot this video), I’d probably stick with the Ripper 2. It’s still a fun boat as things get lower, but my favorite thing about this lap was the ability to initiate off of waves and then squirt and stall through the following wave trains. That move just doesn’t go much lower than 2 feet. At flows below 2 ft, I’d actually probably say the Nova! The Supernova is awesome, but I took the regular Nova down recently and was shocked at how well it fit me at my size. Snug, but ohhh so much more playful than the Ozone or Supernova and ridiculously easy to balance on end. I personally still have an Ozone Large because I can paddle it in a wider variety of conditions and I’m trying to keep my fleet fairly thin at the moment, but I’d say if you feel comfortable in it the Nova is a very ideal summer PNW shred machine! I would definitely feel good in the Ripper 2 on Canyon and Farmies at moderate and low flows. I wouldn’t paddle it on the truss personally just due to my comfort level, but I know it’s already been done quite a few times by paddlers more skilled than me.
