Lynx here. I helped AJ with the research on this video. I'm glad it came out well. If I were to make an addendum to the meta-narrative point it would be this. In my opinion what makes the line a smoking gun is its placement in Pyrocynical's video. He makes his version of the argument when he breaks after analysing the first 3 episodes of the letsplay to give his thoughts on petscop as a whole. Suspiciously, Stockdale originally made the argument in the final thoughts section of his first video, after analysing the first 3 episodes of the letsplay. I don’t think a structural parallel like this can be ignored, especially with the shared language of the argument. It happens again with the final thoughts section of Stockdale'a second video, after he analyses episodes 4-6. Here, Stockdale makes the argument about Paul making progress in the game to seek information. Pyro makes the same argument in a break after analysing episodes 4-6. I don't think this could have happened by accident. Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this project. I had a lot if fun researching and going back and forth with you. I hope this allows nmc to get the credit he deserves. As we say down here in Australia, cheers mate.

God, fucking finally. I've been annoyed about this ever since I first watched Pyro's video. Considering that by his own admission, a deep-dive analysis video like that wasn't typical of his content, it always kind of seemed to me like he was using Masterclass' videos as an easy way to 'try on' that genre like a costume. In the years since, seing all the "Petscop 2" jokes on every other video made about the series has been immensely frustrating, especially when I always suspected that the real reason it never materialized may have been because, as you suggested, he was hesitant to try his luck a second time
@mishakastrilevich8 ай бұрын
You successfully walked the line between showing that Pyro plagiarized and acknowledging that this is only one example, giving him the benefit of the doubt. That's a good thing. A longer video looking at all his videos would yield more interesting results, but as you mentioned, that wasn't the point of the video. I'll be sure to check out Nightmare Masterclass.

As a fan of both creators (somewhat.. I’ve never been a huge Pyro fan but I’ve been watching Nightmare Masterclass since 2017) I really think that there’s a certain level of saturation of talking points about a certain topic across KZbin and that saying something like “oh he noticed the things in Petscop in the same order that… the Petscop videos have them.” It’s kinda like, yeah? Pyro didn’t bring a whole lot of original material to the table but at the end of the day they’re both analyzing the same material, and their value comes more from their different styles of presentation than anything else. I love Nightmare Masterclass but his Petscop series is long and slow paced and while it’s perfect to fall asleep to (as is most of his content, which is something I sincerely love about it) I find Pyro’s video to be a better way for me as a viewer to actually absorb the information since it’s about 2/3 the length (still long as hell, but not as long) and faster paced and presented in Pyro’s upbeat tone rather than Stockdale’s low and slow ASMR-like voice.
@AJ-The-Bumblebee8 ай бұрын
If he didn't bring in a lot of original content, and also did not clarify that is what he was doing, then it's plagiarism. From NMMC or otherwise. We aren't discussing the quality of the individual videos, we're talking about him stealing ideas and observations.

I disagree… somewhat. Full disclosure, I have been a fan of Pyro’s for a while, so it’s fine to disregard this as biased. I think that Pyro’s Petscop video didn’t take directly from Masterclass, but from the community as a whole. Like you pointed out with the triangle sign thing, he injected his own theories into the video, but they were peppered in amongst something else- the community’s. A large part of the Petscop video is him just stating the popular theory’s there were at the time, because Petscop wasn’t really popular itself, and so all he did was organize and make it into a video that was entertaining to watch. I do think he watched Masterclass’ videos on it, because there are some parts where he says things in a similar manner, but a lot of the clips in here felt like just things you’d point out in any video trying to analyze Petscop. Petscop was essentially a springboard for Pyro to start making more personal longform content, and so as such it isn’t that creative itself- it’s built on the general consensus’s the community had at the time. And I think that’s also why Pyro hasn’t made a sequel- because that would just be summarizing the newfound theories that have come from it, and his newer longform content is less like that (sometimes). That’s all. Nice video nonetheless.

Plagiarism is plagiarism. At the very least, he credited the petscop doc when he covered wildly known theories. He did not do that with NMMC, ever.

you're muddying the waters. if you get into the specifics like AJ did, you will see that this is a clear case of plagiarism. he even uses the same idiosyncratic phrases (for example, "conduit" and "we the viewers." these are little quirks that nightmare has! there are many very specific points that nightmare made, which were directly lifted from his videos. the somebody/one distinction is the smoking gun if you ask me. nightmare was the first to point it out, and it's central to their whole analysis of petscop. it's about dehumanization. that was directly taken from nightmare's vid. if you watch other youtuber's coverage, they will either not make those same points, or credit nightmare because they have integrity. shout out to sagan hawkes!

I see Pyro's vid as a bite sized intro to the series. No harm in that. Besides, it was 2017 Pyro, far cry from his quality now. That being said, he could've at least directed viewers to the full analysis.
@404maxnotfound8 ай бұрын
Also I always felt like pyros video on entrpy zero 2 was 'inspired' by Lucias video on entrpy zero 2. As for this video the strongest argument is the comparing the brightness level of the characters which I think was pretty unique to nightmare analysis video everything else was in the video was rather very surface level arguments anyone could come up with including pyro. That being said I don't think this is enough to claim plagiarism, we would need more evidence of him copying scripts.
@AJ-The-Bumblebee7 ай бұрын
Plagiarism is characterized by stealing ideas and passing them off as your own, not by copy and pasting. And I've made very clear these can't be just surface level observations, especially with this many examples.

I had seen both pyros video and NM's videos before but never realized how similar they were, very strange
@duncancreamer82518 ай бұрын
Would the videos not both structured similarly because the petscop series is chronological? And not to give either side shit but the observations made in the petscop analysis video aren’t deep they’re extremely surface level which i’m not saying is a bad thing but it makes coming to the same conclusions really not that far fetched.
@AJ-The-Bumblebee8 ай бұрын
Then why do other Petscop videos that also go chronologically not sound like NMMC, whereas Pyro's does?

@@AJ-The-Bumblebee Haven’t looked at any other petscop videos so i wouldn’t be able to tell you! but i will check them out! :)
@MelvinAfraid6668 ай бұрын
It's not just that the videos are structured in a similar way. If it were merely a handful of similar observations, I would dismiss it as coincidental. But there are frequent and oddly specific similarities that no other video on the topic has. The format, the observations themselves, the deductions made from those observations, and the analytical points, as well as the thematic analysis, all show undeniable parallels. And they're not surface level! No one else caught the sign changing from "somebody" to "one!" I was working on the progress doc, and that certainly wasn't in there. I remember this blowing my mind at the time because it's so subtle and creepy. It's a blink and you'll miss it type thing. At a certain point, if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, etc. I think it's safe to say it's a duck! This is one of the more blatant attempts at plagiarism I've seen in the petscop community.
