Hi! Ton uses R1+R2 because C charges through both of those resistors. Toff uses only R2 because it's discharging the C through pin 7. 69% is correct for this usage for 1t. I wish I could explain here, but this is really only meant to be an introduction. Hopefully in the future I can do a full video on the 555. This website explains the 555 timer in great and specific detail: doctronics . co . uk / 555 . htm (take out the spaces)

How would you manipulate the formulae for on and off time to get a 50% duty cycle at an arbitrary frequency?

I used a 1uf capacitor and the led did not flash. I needed at least a 33uf to see a flashing LED

If the astable multivibrator is symmetrical, is the duty cycle always 50%? If the capacitors are asymmetrical, would the duty cycle change?

The whole idea of circuit work on breadboards is so that YOU can experiment, therefore finding YOUR own answers, as long as you work with 9 volts or less you will come to no harm, however your components may suffer and stop working, so please stop asking questions go out and experiment, when you get it wrong and things are not working, then that is the time to ask.

Hello, 1st of all thanks for the video and the explanation u afford, we appreciate. So I got some two questions; About the formula which u calculate with it Ton and Toff; Why you used R1+R2 to calculate Ton and only R2 for calculating Toff? And its 63% what corresponds for 1t of charging capacitor not 69% ? Thanks again

During each cycle the capacitor, C charges up through both timing resistors, R1 and R2 but it only discharges itself through resistor, R2 as the other side of R2 is connected to the discharge terminal, on pin 7.

Why in the schematic are the 555 timer pins not in order?

Because it is more logical to move the pin outs so they are easier to draw on your circuit without having too many lines criss crossing over, the actual pins in the chip of course remain as per the pinout chart
