In this video I’m going go through my process for burning this portrait. I have a tendency to avoid doing burnings of people and I discuss my reasons for this in this video, as well as the difficulties I have with drawing and burning people in general, and my tips for improving your own portraits.
The burner I use is a Razertip SS-D10:

The music in this video is from Epidemic Sound.

Wow! Awesome job! I also wood burn and what you said about pet portraits is so so true! I’ve done several dog portraits and the way you shade with the fur is sooo much easier than skin. I was just commissioned for my first portrait of a person and I’m nervous! I have only done a self portrait and I felt it easier because I could fill in the parts that weren’t too visible in the picture because I know me😂 but I don’t know the person I’m doing and it’s someone who has passed away so I feel a lot of pressure it get it just right. Thanks so much for posting this I think it will really help me with my project. You are an amazing artist!

Thank you! I did one of someone who had passed too, and the picture was really blurry, so I was super nervous. Good luck with your portrait! :)

The portrait came out beautiful. I have a Razortip also. I recently upgraded to it. I would be really interested in knowing some of the different tips you use when burning. I can't wait to hear how you finish your pieces. I look forward to next weeks video. Thank you!

Thank you! I mostly use the tips that came in the original kit with my burner. So, the knife tip, the spoon shader and the ball tip. I’ve been thinking about buying a new shader though. Maybe I’ll do a video about it :)

Stunning! All the points you made about portraits, especially toddlers/children, I just saw in an episode of Ink Master. So I'll never go in wanting a loved one's portrait tattooed on my body permanently 😆 You do amazing work! I'm through all your videos right now. Have you ever shared how you got into burning?

Wow thanks for all your comments! Yeah, portraits of kids can go downhill fast 😆 I got into burning because I saw someone doing it at a farmers market when I was a kid lol, maybe I’ll talk about it in a video sometime :)

Hi could you please tell me what temperature and shading point you use on razertip when you do black background . Many thanks

I used the spoon shader, and I put it on a fairly high heat, like 7-9. But it’s like cooking, you want to adjust the heat while you’re working depending on what result you’re getting.

Nice what kind of pencil do you use to get the lines off
@WildwoodStudio

I just use a regular graphite pencil and tracing paper to transfer my drawing, then I take the lines off with an eraser when I don’t need them anymore.
