There is a problem with modern multi-grade oil where there is no coagulation and all impurities are stay dispersed within oil, so the only method is a continuous distillation.

Think it is less costly too.

Though if you want to use the chemical method then after the acid treatment separate the fuel from acid tar first, and only then neutralize it.
