I'm not even a big fan of the early RE games, I love 7 and 8, and though 6's story is dogshit, the gameplay is unironically really good (QTE's aside.) Yet the RE2 remake might be the one I've played through the most. It's just perfect. The gameplay is buttery smooth, the layout of the police station is intuitive and realistic, and the graphics are superb. My only complaint, and this is one I have for the first 3 RE games, is that killing one zombie takes SO many bullets. I get that you're not supposed to kill them all, but when one zombie can take 10+ bullets TO THE HEAD, it just feels lame. I'd have been okay with the game giving me less ammo overall if that ammo actually did what it's supposed to do. But that's my only complaint, everything else about the game is amazing.

I've heard that the RE2 remake at least has adaptive difficulty. If you're doing well (have loads of ammo/items) it makes the zombies more resilient/faster, let's them lunge twice in succession, etc. It's a cool design idea but I agree that it feels kinda lame when you have to burn through so much ammo to kill one zombie. I guess without it you'd just end up with an insane amount of ammo.
