18:38,I suggest use a counter to name the faces,because some faces may have the same top value,so only one of the faces with the the same top value will be stored. Hope this helps. Great videos, thanks!

Hello! This is really helpful! Thank you! Im not very good at programming and the teacher had us to make a face recognition program as the last assignment so I'm clueless on many things! I would like to use this tutorial to start my assignment but we are not allowed to use any machine learning package/module and we cannot use any built-in/ready to use linear regression functions. So I more lost than ever of how to start. Do you have any advice? We have to use an algorithm and not sure how to implement it on python.

Is it possible to use the internet as the 'database' for the current unknown folder you are using, therefore, running face matches of pictures you have of people that are also seen on the internet. Thus, creating a search engine for for unknown people you have a picture of?

@maryam i ended up using linux bash script to record 6 secnds of video then extract stills from the 6s video then use python to compare image and then loop till it finds a recognized allowed user to then fire off another script that opens a door . try ffmpeg.

I'm currently running into a problem. I can't get the face_recognition.load_image_file('./directory') to select a whole folder full of images. It only accepts one image (which seems obv. with the load_image_file and not _files. But is there a possibility to make it run in a for loop? I've tried a few things, but everytime it get's back to the 1 image I've chosen in the face_recognition.load_image_file('./directory'). Thanks!

you can use another module to rename all the files in the folder to a sequence : any_name.jpg -> 1.jpg, 2.jpg and than iterate through every str(i)+.'jpg' to get every image object in memory. search for "glob" and "os" 's documentations. If you are on a linux (or use git+unix on Win) you can call "mv file1.jpg file2.jpg" or "rename file1.jpg file2.jpg".

Just adding this : you can wrap glob with enumerate() and you will have something as simple as this : for nbr, name in enumerate (glob(r"path/to/files/*.jpg")): os.rename(name, "Picture_{0}".format(nbr)) # you can even add an exception handle to this.

This worked great! I'd watched a few other videos but couldn't get them to work ... presuming that cv2 was the problem; I got segmentation faults after running their code: QObject::moveToThread: Current thread (0x9663790) is not the object's thread (0x8fc73d0). Cannot move to target thread (0x9663790) Segmentation fault (core dumped) The difference between your code and theirs is that you use pillow instead of cv2. Can you do another face_recognition video on detecting faces in videos and via webcam? There are a few out there but I couldn't find one that uses pillow instead of cv2; I'd tried the code from these videos, regardless... but as I predicted, still ended up with pretty much the same segmentation faults.
