@conceptualclarity Magic is just over 6'8", Larry was just over an inch taller. The MJ height is absolutely true. He was listed at 6'4 1/2" for '84 Olympic team, then magically 6'6" in NBA. During the filming of Air, Matt Damon told a story about this. Him and Ben were hanging out with MJ and Ben is just over 6'3" and MJ was only about an inch taller. Matt asked MJ about it and MJ smiled for a bit then said...knowing that now, do you think what I did was less or even more impressive and then winked. Lol

I was a huge Hawks fan back in the 80's and 90's. Wilkins, Willis, Doc Rivers would visit our Elementary school all the time. One time I asked Doc Rivers why they couldn't get past the Boston Celtics and Doc just gave me this look and said "Larry Bird is the best player in the game and we have no answer for him."

Bird as a rookie had a 28 inch vertical = the same as Karl Malone. Nobody gets to the NBA without being a good athlete. Bird had another great weapon = his endurance. Bird ran up and down hills in the summer in Indiana to keep in outstanding physical condition. Bird was also ambidextrous and could pass and shoot with either hand. The narrative that Bird was not athletic is an insult to Bird and not accurate.

Lebron is rightfully mentioned in the goat conversation. But, he can't hit free throws or shoot like Larry Bird did (and probably STILL does). He's not even close. Bird founded the 50-40-90 Club. And, never once in his career, did Bird shy away from taking the clutch shot, whether from the free-throw line, or out beyond the 3-point line. Bird hit the most incredible shots, on the regular. He lived for firing off the last, usually winning, shot. The addition of rookie Bird took what was the second worst team in the league the year before (29 wins), to 61 wins and the Eastern Conference finals. As a rookie! Bird was a fully-formed superstar on day one in the NBA. Second-year Bird won his first NBA title. I'm also not sure how many All-Star 3-point contests Lebron has entered and won. But Larry won the first three contests in a row. And then there's killer instinct. Bird was born with it. Magic was born with it. Jordan was born with it. Kobe was born with it. Not sure you could argue the same about Lebron. Lebron is friggin' amazing. But, he's not in Larry's league. That's not a knock on Lebron. More an indication of how good Bird really was.

And people really don't understand how ridiculous Bird was in his prime before his back and ankle injuries slowed him down. Miller isn't the only one that would take a prime Bird over a prime Lebron. Remember, for 4 straight seasons from 84-88 over 300 games Bird averaged a 50/40/90 with just over 28 points 10 rebounds and 7 assists per game. I'm sorry but Bron ain't touching that line in single season let alone consistently over 4 straight seasons. Bron is a top-3 player all-time because of how good he was for as long as he was but talking absolute 4-5 year peak, Bird was actually better.

Reggie also played against Bird. Watched him smash his face on the floor, get a concussion, leave the game while the Pacers took the lead, then Bird comes back out and plays like he dodnt have dpuble vision and a concussion and put the nail in the Pacers coffin. That was Larry when he also had a bad back. Reggie knows what hes getting with Bird. Also, Bird is a better shooter and rebounder than lebron, and maybe even a better passer, but yeah for the most part Bron can do all that great too. Bron is more like a Magic Johnson that scores more.

Terrell Brandon was the 11th overall pick in the 1991 Draft and was in the league 11 years, averaging 13.8ppg. Brian Shaw was in the league until he was 36 which probably speaks to why he's coaching in the NBA now. How TF ain't Nolan Richardson a "Legend"??? On top of all the guys he helped get into the NBA as a College Coach, he played for the program that lead into the first, all Black Roster winning an NCAA Championship over Kentucky (among other things). He's giving that speech at the Basketball Hall of Fame Induction. Man... You need to do a little more research. Y'all people under 40 think Cars, TV, Cellphones and all this stuff just "materialized" when you were born. Go look at the history of how TV was invented, it pretty much started with a teenager out in the country while he was still in High School. You think Philo Farnsworth (TV Inventor) was a scrub too? He changed the world.

You automatically attributed Reggie's decision to a personal bias. Reggie's Sister is arguably on the Mt. Rushmore of Female Ball Players, his older brother also played Major League Baseball. Larry accomplished everything he did in a far more physical era and did a good portion of it with a back he tore up building his mother a driveway. LeBron, EASILY a Mt. Rushmore Fitness Guy between NBA/NFL/MLB, he's right up there with Jerry Rice, Walter Payton and ANYONE that ever did it, but comparing the physicality between eras is a joke. Bird is going to play 10 games of this and ask someone to hit him. I know I would.
