It would be so cool if you could make/buy/find a bird tree (like a cat tree, but branches instead of platforms/beds), that they can hang out on. Just an idea for adding variety to their environment. I used to house sit for an avian vet who had her husband mount grapevine to one corner of the living room walls for her African Grey and Amazon parrot and they loved it. She would lay plastic on the floor below for poops and it was the perfect set up. I know you rent, but I'm sure you could figure out a free standing option. Just a fun idea :)

Unfortunately I have a neighborhood Karen that called animal control on my roosters multiple times along with the code of enforcement in my area so I can no longer have my fur babies outside. I'm already in love with my roosters Trust and Jesus so I'm keeping them in my garage now with my 4 baby chickens. Thank you for giving me hope that I can keep my 🐓 as indoor pets.

Aggresiveness in roosters is bred into them by thousands of years of breeding aggressiveness for cockfighting. Also, if 2 chickens are friends and often hang out together and one dies, then the one that remains misses the other, but in general they are not overly sentimental creatures. this may shock you, but, More than once, one chicken died, and when i found it, the other have started eating it. .

Hi there!! I have Betty Jean Bocker, a random breed called a Crevacour,, a Tractor Supply surprise. Lol She looks like she's wearing a big black wig of feathers, with one working leg . Betty is now in the house and running the show! She loves to sit on a perch looking out windows, usually a broom stick with a rag wrapped around it. She loves the little can of meal worms with crickets (she picks those out lol) at Walmart although they are spendy. Hey favorite foods are spaghetti noodles, blueberries, watermelon, marionberry yogurt, Ritz crackers, millets and ice water. So I had to share this...I tried the swing thing but she couldn't stand on it so I just tried hanging an old sheet tied on each end and hung from a rod. It keeps her nice and snuggled and she loves when I push her. Lol This obviously gets tedious so I'm thinking about trying a baby swing?? Anyway that's a few things I wanted to share. I'm always looking for new treats and things to do for her to try. If you have a min let me know a few things you might have to offer?? Or what video would enlighten me? Lol She has been sadly solo most of her 11 months and doesn't know any different. This is a one time thing for me!

I love your channel! We had an indoor chicken a few years ago. She actually did van life with us for a year or so. :) I have 2 one day old bantams coming in to the post office today and I can barely function I am so excited lol. Did you notice a huge difference in overall "stuff" (regarding having a house chicken) going from 1 girl to 2 or 3? Also, what age do you think I should order these girls their diapers? On Greta (1st chick) she grew so fast and huge that I ended up ordering 3 sets of diapers as she kept outgrowing them. Also, (haha sorry!) how do your diapers hold up w/ the watery chicken poops? I rmbr 1st thing in the morning when Greta would just chug water I'd secretly be thinking oh man... here we go.... does smaller hens = smaller poops? haha! (the poop struggle is real.) Lots of love!
@renthehousehen2 жыл бұрын
I got my youngest at 4 months old and she was already fully grown, so I only ever bought one size, luckily. Those watery poops!! Hahaha, I have some diapers that can hold the water but most of the time I'll add in a paper towel to soak some of it up and make clean up easier. Ya know, you'd think smaller hen = smaller poop but somehow the volume of their poops seems to exceed the amount of food they eat. Defies physics but they are poop MACHINES. LOL

How could anyone beat up their rooster, holy fuck that's vile, thank you for not telling the story, I get super upset over animal cruelty stories, but I hope that dude never gets another pet again and I hope his current pets were taken away. I'm so sorry to hear about Peach by the way, she was beautiful. I recently lost my frog Dumpling, it's been upsetting, I really loved him and I also only had him for around 5-6 months I think, maybe even less. It's definitely really depressing to lose a pet but I totally agree with you, it's better to have them and lose them than never have them at all. Chickens are such interesting and unique little animals, I love the sounds they make and I just adore their little faces. I've always loved birds since I was a kid because I thought it was super cool that they were descendants of dinosaurs. I love how intelligent they are too, they have such big personalities just like a dog or a cat if not more than some dogs I've met lol. I would love to get chickens but at the moment I totally can't since I live in a small apartment with a roommate and I think my cats would stress them out, or at least my female cat would because she's too curious and energetic and would definitely get in their business and probably try to swipe at them, so for now I just have to enjoy them through videos on here haha

What breed of chicken was peach? Was her unique feather patterns and appearance due to her breed or her health conditions?
@renthehousehen2 жыл бұрын
She was a frazzle serama. Yes, she had a double copy of the frizzle gene which made her a frazzle. This leads to enlarged organs (like her heart) and reduced lifespan. She was bred irresponsibly.

Hi. You inspire me. Does ren wear a diaper 24/7? How does she get through the night without a change? I am raising a golden comet as a house pet. She is 10 weeks old now. I exposed her to short periods with a diaper since she was 3 weeks old. If she is in her "coop" she doesn't wear a diaper. Only when out and around the house. But if she could wear a diaper 24/7 I wouldn't have to clean the coop any more.
@renthehousehen2 жыл бұрын
Lately, around 5/7 nights per week, she's sleeping diaper-free on my desk. When she's in the bed, the diaper pouch is big enough to catch poop and keep it away from her bum. It helps, too, that they don't really poop while they are sleeping, mostly before they sleep and right when they wake up. Hope that helps!
@susanmccutchen91632 жыл бұрын
@@renthehousehen Thank you so much for answering me ! i thought she poops all night long without control. Knowing the "prolific" times helps alot. Her breed lays an egg a day (I have several in an outdoor flock.) So I was already planning on the egg pouch for morning egg laying time. I have longed for an inside pet hen since childhood. I am recently retired and finally have time for the things I've always wanted but couldn't afford the time required in my busy schedule.

I started with 3 outside chickens in a coop. One of the hens had to be euthanized 3 months ago, and the one I have left, goes to the fence sometimes, and looks off in the distance, like she's looking for her sister. They came originally from the same flock, and the owner died, so now I have them. But her looking out the fence is really sad. She doesn't do it as much lately.

Hello, I had two hen one sex link and the other one Rhod Island. I saw your previous video on how to change the diapers for the hen. My question is regarding the changing the diapers. how often do you change them, do you usually change them every day or once a day? Thanks
