Beautiful time spent listening to a wonderous writer. Clearly a man who could have been a character in his books about interesting persons.

True story: I wanted to listen to something narrated by David, instead of the Civil War doc because it's pretty heavy stuff. I looked up the narrator and discovered David McCullough earlier this year, and listened to everything. Then realized that he isn't with us anymore... and cried like a baby. This man made me proud to be American, at a time when that was a difficult task and I would love to thank him for it.

Brian Lamb's questions elict fascinating mini-dissertations from McCullough that supplement his book and that shed light on his method as a writer. Inspiring on multiple levels.

Yes, Saint-Gaudens. When I lived in St. Paul, there was one of his sculptures which had been atop a building and saved when the building was demolished. It had been mounted at street level where it could be appreciated by passers-by, but I think most of them didn’t know what they had.

I was lucky enough to work for many years in NYC near Grand Army Plaza, and got to walk by Sherman Memorial by Saint-Gaudens, hundreds of times and I was always amazed by it.

Am I the only person that would love to see an interview with David McCullough and Malcolm Gladwell...the history and facts they would share?!
