I’m a 65 year old musician and played in bands most of my life, but retired a few years ago. Emily, I am a guitarist. My undergrad degree is in Classical Guitar. Arthritis has taken away most of my guitar skill but I occasionally take out my Ovation guitar that has very low action but it is frustrating. I have one question for you: Is the studio, in which you record, in your home? It is an amazingly well-appointed studio. I am surprised you are not already world-famous because you are amazing. I am 70 years old and your biggest fan so you reach people of all ages. Stay as beautiful as you are when fame does come your way.

Emily has a brilliant strategy. She is obviously talented, but also a brilliant strategist. She plays the old music of the 60s ad 70s... but also looks the part. She could easily step right into 1969... and fit in with the girls of that era. Natural hair color; middle part; beautiful simple clothes; no tattoos. A real throwback. Which builds her following... and then allow her to introduce her own music too. I am a fan. Love her act!

I never heard the song Falling until you Emily, did a cover. Now, it's the only version I know, and I love it so much! I am not a singer, but in private I find singing that song while it plays a very powerful emotional experience. When the mood strikes me of course. To tell you the truth, since I mainly rock out, many of your songs are a first for me. "Both Sides Now" I remember a bit from the past is also one of my favs. My very favorite song of yours is "Time Goes By" it's a very beautiful song. Em, I have a suggestion for you: You mentioned Whitney Houston and Dolly Parton are two of your favorite female singers. My suggestion would be for you to cover "I Will Always Love You". As you may know, Dolly wrote it and performed it, and of course Whitney's cover is legendary. It would be a nice way to pay tribute to both. Dolly wrote it for a man named Porter Wagoner, who had been a mentor and partner to Dolly early in her career. She decided to pursue a solo career, and that necessitated her leaving him. It was such a touching tribute.

I understand that you'd like to fit some more original material into your schedule. If you ever need a few song ideas perhaps a collaborative effort would work. Before going down that route, it's important to find people you could actually work with and that won't cramp your style and your own path to happiness. As you're well aware, it's tough out there in the music business. As for me, I couldn't do music 9-5. And yet, few things make me happier than creating music. I think I've written a few good songs but do not expect them to hit the charts. One of my dreams would be to hear a song that I helped create make it big. And yet it's not a necessity. If it doesn't happen, well alright. But then I remember how a light once lit should not be kept hidden. So keep letting your light shine, and do it because more than anything else you love it and are having fun. Along these lines I highly recommend a book by Elizabeth Gilbert called "Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear." Worth checking out. Oh, and thank you so much for all your material!
