The Barbell Hack Squat is best done off the ground as more of a deadlift, it is incredible for spinal erector development and is safe to do with slight spinal flexion because your spinal position stays the same throughout the lift, similar to a atlas stone lift. In my experience you can generally match you conventional deadlift 1rm this way too.

Rip Do you know if it is possible to fade away an scar tissue which was formed 10 months ago in a muscle tear? I can not fully contract my right tricep and that suposses a serious problem in my training I heard of ART or Cross friction massage , but if this dont work , surgery to remove the scar tissue could be the last resort?

Mr Mark. Thanks for developing the program. I had an ACL surgery and starting strength was the defining factor to regain real functionality. Reading the book is helping a lot with form, haven’t finished it but it’s a good read. I’m 31, 200lbs, my squat is 295, deadlift 295 , bench is 235, press is 150, roughly 6 months since starting the program. I think, from what I see you guys lifting, that I have a long way to go, and maybe need more discipline. I wanted to ask you, I’m in a point in which squatting feels really hard. Squats make me feel sleepy and tired after the first set. I can keep up with the linear progression using change plates, but sometimes I feel that lifting the same weight as the previous sessions is just significantly harder. Is this a factor of rest and nutrition? Or Should I step back to a weight that feels less grindy? I’m not sure if I’m pushing past a weight that I should be lifting, for being impatient to lift more.
@bpprovencal5 жыл бұрын
David Sanjuan I'd bet you either don't eat enough, don't sleep well, or both. What's your caloric intake?
@dasaen5 жыл бұрын
Bruno-Pier Provençal I think you are right, I find it hard to come by good education on nutrition. I’m also not good at estimating calories. I feel that I eat a lot during dinner but for breakfast I just grab a glass of milk before heading to work. Usually for lunch I eat some chips and beef jerky. Night I do about 2 bowls of rice and beans and a big salad. Weekends I do eggs in the morning, usually no lunch, and dinner I go out for a steak or a burger.

Raimonster Will do, maybe I’m rushing it a bit. I’ll rest more than the 10, I’ve been doing about 5 to 7 minutes.
@bpprovencal5 жыл бұрын
@@dasaen From what you're telling me, you're likely not eating enough to run the SS program correctly. So was I, at first. When I started eating 3500 calories a day, I felt like I was on steroids. Lifts went up quite a bit after that. I don't know how tall you are, but you may need to eat even more than that, at least for a few weeks/months. If undereating is your problem, you'll see the benefits of a high caloric diet very, very quickly. Milk may be your friend if you have trouble eating a lot. Good luck !
@dasaen5 жыл бұрын
Bruno-Pier Provençal thanks man! will start eating more and being more conscious about it. Im 6’, and yeah the program was like that for me at the beginning. I started real light and was putting so much weight week after week, then plateaued from that feeling of sleepiness.

To the guy asking the question at around the 26:05 mark. You are probably not being consistent, or you haven't been for very long. 23yo 6'2" 215lbs and a 350dl? You could add a whole bunch more weight to that without gaining an ounce. 21yo 6'1" 196lbs here and just pulled 500. Took close to 3 years, but my point is that those are not your final numbers at that bw.

Hi Mark (pun not intended). What is your opinion on lifting with kyphosis? Most of my life I was a couch potato with untrained upper body. Being fat did not help with the kyphosis at all - it made it worse. Now, having lost significant weight (BF at 17% approx) I have been training (bro splits, now SBD & OHP /w some accessories) for almost 2 yrs. My posture is significantly better (it is much easier to stand straight). Are there any prohibitive lifts?

@BlargeMan5 жыл бұрын
Rip would probably have a low opinion of Jeff's overcomplicated programming style (very PT influenced) and his lack of a real progression scheme in his workout programs that he sells. This applies to his beginner's program too. However, Jeff still has a lot of good things to say and is very big on the compound lifts as being foundational movements. Jeff is also very knowledgable when it comes to rehabilitating injuries, solving flexibility and mobility imbalances, etc. His programs are good for just general fitness, for people who are already somewhat strong. And he's a big proponent of athletic and bodyweight training for conditioning, and I am too. Moving the body and controlling its movement through space is essential if you do any kind of sport.

Dear Rip I have a confession to make I started doing the novice linear program until I needed to take 4 or 5 breaths before my fifth squat Then I was tempted away from the program by RPE training. That is do RPE 8 leave 2 in the tank etc because I thought I was an intermediate. At first I liked not having to bust a gut on each set. But all that happened was my numbers went down. I gave it a few months but have now gone back to the linear progression and am now approaching my old numbers. Keep training simple hard and effective

Even if weight or mass increase is muscle (and not fat), heart size does not increase proportionately with that muscle weight. The strength and power of the heart does not proportionately increase increase with increased muscle mass, muscle power and muscle strength.

RIP's reaction to a sober assessment that disagrees with him on the trap bar is PRECISELY why he is increasingly regarded as a grouchy old curmudgeon out of touch with current evidence based training. He calls the poster stupid and an idiot who knows nothing simply for stating something that is at least plausible and quite possibly evidently and objectively TRUE. RIP himself has said many times that the deadlift requires a lot of good coaching. It requires good coaching because done WRONG it is DANGEROUS. The trap bar requires LESS coaching and there is no evidence that "sagital instability" is a particular problem over and above the many issues with the deadlift. And if it was something so stupid for the poster to suggest, then RIP is basically saying the US's strongest person (Oberst) and arguably one of the best strength scientists (Nuckols) are stupid. Oberst is convinced the deadlift is dangerous at high weight and Nuckols makes a very good case that the trap bar is superior. Rip could have been calm and rational here. But then it wouldn't be Rip.
