I know it's a bit late to be asking questions, but perhaps this one can be added to the pile for next session: What does it take to start doing what you do (the expedition side that is, not Alan)? Do you have any formal education or training marking you a 'scientist' rather than 'someone who likes long walks in dangerous circumstances'?

The rear platform sounds good, but it could be happy instead of stern 😁 God my jokes suck. Seriously though, consider whether you want it to be solid or perforated. If it catches a wave, it could put a lot of force on the hull if it's solid. I've had plenty of boats with stern "swim platforms" and they were all just about the waterline, with drainage slats.

😂 Paul. Yes you're spot on with the platform. It's to be a sturdy GRP grating with tons of drainage.
