There must be something called Achievement Fatigue. I live in Dover and there are so many people swimming the Channel it is not even reported in the local paper. Everest is like a major tourist destination. Likewise sponsored walks up Kilimanjaro. The oceans are crossed in rowboats all the time, etc.
@AlexHibbertOriginals4 ай бұрын
That's a good label. It can be powerful, and of course seeded by media. Similarly - people doing sponsored x, y and z and badgering office colleagues. Interestingly, time can heal and allow subsequent waves of interest.

@@AlexHibbertOriginals I hope so. I even remember the manpowered flight challenge to fly a 1 mile course being broken and being surprised at how little impact it had. The Gossamer Albatross crossed the channel and another plane flew over 70 miles. Maybe it is the person that is remembered, rather than the deed. If you are a Scott, Cook, or Shackleton?

Good video Alex, you are a natural orator, you kept my interest and attention on a subject that would not normally be so interested in, it seems to be a fairly self-indulgent ego-driven endeavour to ski to the pole, but you make it entertaining and I am fascinated by the first-hand witness of climate change that is undeniable and so important that it is publicised! Cheers!

Alex! Good to see you, always. I'm amazed at how much detailed history you were able to pack in to just twenty minutes, and how you kept my attention, for the most part, on your content, and not on its presentation. Well done. And your postscript/teaser? Wow. I may have to watch the last couple of minutes again, very closely, to see if you've left any crumbs of a trail at all! Teasing. To the max! I look forward to seeing you here again, soon. All the best.

I would suggest future exploration or expeditions may be a more land based travel . Taking more time but significantly less money and a closer rescue potential. All that matters is the ice ice baby

Enjoyed this video a lot. Sad what has become of north pole expeditions in a very short period. Still, I think if you can get yourself to Ward Hunt Island by aircraft, then a return expedition to the pole is still achievable in 110 days with skis, sled and packraft, despite the lessening sea ice. I don't think the new vehicle project is viable in the absence of a very high budget and 5-10 years on research and development. The Russian expedition earlier this year is indicative of what is required. Ultimately, drone technology will improve enough to assist polar travel and mountaineering, but that is decades away and there will still be regulatory issues to deal with. Overall, I think keep it simple rather than trying to re-invent the wheel and just get yourself to Ward Hunt Island somehow.

First answer to the kwestion is Dominick Arduin who managed to die crossing 100km open sea on children's kayak. There is onhand account of this "Race to the Pole"-scene which reads almost like a comedy, search "Dominick Arduinin matka kohti pohjoisnapaa " and translate. Second answer is Børge Ousland, who perfected the technique in "Kayaks as Pulks, Kites as Dogs". There seems to be nothing to explore or improve after that.

Amazing fact: ChatGPT knows the difference between Sami words "Ahkio" and "Pulkka". Børge Ousland for example uses incorrectly the word "Pulk" for his sleigh. While US Army uses the "Ahkio".

I just use sledge for humans.... sleigh is for reindeer! Never quite got the pulk thing - probably just Brits wanting to sound nordic.

It goes to show, that it is actually hard, to go on an expedition to the np. Everything else of similar endeavours, are just short term pain and cash can get you most of the way. Heavily generalized here, of course.

Alex is there a reason you no longer allow embedding? I tried to post your video to my blog to get you some more coverage, but it says that embedding is disabled.

I think it only became a controllable option a year or so ago, and I've left defaults like no remixing, no embeds etc to 'no'. My sense is that the cons outweigh the pros.

I was rather short of angles that didn't complicate the image, or have yet more bright spots or distractions in shot. It's the same lav mic I use for all the PTC on the Alan videos. It'll never be as nice as the SM7B. Cheers though!
@Chris.from.19504 ай бұрын
@@AlexHibbertOriginals Alex, I'm thinking that the "wooly" sound has to do with the room you were shooting in being a hot one, with a relatively high percentage of uncovered surfaces. A lot of people who shoot indoors video do it, literally, in a closet that they've treated to lessen the bounce to the mic. P.S. I'll leave my main comment(s) out in the main highway... Cheers.
@AlexHibbertOriginals4 ай бұрын
Those little lav mics don't have much range, so I think it might be more a poor EQ job on my end, and less about echoes. It's been fine on other PTC clips. Will do better. Unlike when people complain about audio on other vids, I CAN hear the wooly sound on this one.
