I do wonder if Jonestown could have been a success, if they could have had their dream society, if it was not for Jim Jones himself getting in the way. The people were not dumb.. they gave up a lot because they believed in this vision of a real Rainbow Nation, love and fairness. Makes me sick what was taken from the world... the vision, and the optimistic dreamers who really tried to pull this off and not just talk about it.

Cinnamon Girl Thank you!! People tend to think of the story of Peoples Temple as being just about a bunch of ignorant sheep led astray by an evil madman. There is so much more. It's both sad and dangerous to see it that way. There was alot of good that was done in the very early days in Indiana. The issues of where and how things went wrong are important to look into. As Grace Stoen said, "they could have been a force to be reckoned with".

@@RicardoGarcia-kv8it Exactly. It can last for a little while, but even with a place like China that just rapes the environment and ocean to try to keep going, eventually they have to allow some capitalism, industry, and trade. Look at how the Soviet Union at the end was basically scrap metal held together by wire. It just amazes me every time I see people advocating socialism or communism again, like it's somehow going to work this time. (And the people suggesting it always pretend they see it as some glorious equality and freedom, but they're always secretly imagining/assuming themselves as one of the ruling elite--but then that's the answer, isn't it? Scratch a socialist, find a fascist. Freedom for me but not for thee.)

Jim Jr needed to keep the mic away from his mouth when he wasn’t speaking. The sounds of him salivating were quite distracting, particularly during the crying woman’s question from the audience, and then again when the group was asked the final question. It was heard all through his speaking as well, he should have been more aware of it. Like a hungry person eating a bagel slathered with cream cheese when no one was around.
