It is so hard for the kids, no question about it. My daughter's best friends parents were divorced but the parent decided they would always live within walking distance to each other's house - It was an amazing example of co-parenting. The kids would wander back & forth between the parents houses at will. There were 2 children (my daughters friend and her little sister) and sometimes one would go have dinner at Dad's (the primary house was Mom's - just because they needed at permanent address for the school, daycare etc.) while the other one went out with friends. The dad actually got remarried when the kids where in there teens and the 2 mom's got along very well and in fact when the dad developed cancer when the kids were away at college - the girls mom (the ex) actually helped look after the dad through his illness.

Just wanted to share that when my parents divorced it was uncontested for both of them. What hurt and divided our family for decades and to this day is the venom with which both spoke to us, their children about each other. It is beyond cruel for any parent to diminish or cut down the other parent to get the children to choose a side. I'm a senior now, caring for my 97 year-old mum at home. I love my mum to no end but it still really hurts when she speaks against my dad. My dad was no better. He's been gone (passed away) for 24+ years. The hatred is never ending. Now my siblings have that same hatred in their hearts for one parent or the other.

No amount of double birthdays and christmases will ever compensate for the primal loss of a child’s parents marriage.

True. But, it is still helpful to focus on silver linings during tough emotions.

This is the core problem of society. Nuclear families being split up and kids get to suffer for it. Marriage is hard and commitment is not as important it used to be. I’m so sad that you (and many others) just don’t have that burning fire to keep a marriage working and focused on something other than me me me

Kelsey, you need a pair of cute wedges. I’m not sure boots would look right because it’s light and airy snd boots will seem heavy at the bottom. Just my thoughts

It's a pity you coudln't have lived as flatmates until the kids were a bit older - it's quite common in Europe and Australia these days. I guess, that would have entailed buying a home with four bedrooms though. Growing up is hard to do, especially, with a husband and two young kids.

Excuse me?? Don’t be a hypocrite by saying something you know you wouldn’t say to her face. Their children will be just fine because of them! You have no idea why they decided to divorce, so who can say they would’ve been better off if they hadn’t divorced. You don’t know the situation, so keep your comments to yourself. Being cruel to someone behind the safety of your device won’t fix what’s wrong with you.
