Something I would also advise everyone who uses gel or gets their nails done by someone else ; Report your allergy to the brand/company. Report your allergy to your nail technician. Have a look at their system. Are they using the gel brands lamp? This can help both the company's and the technicians to evaluate what could be making allergies more common. Some people never develop an allergy, some people only need to be exposed once and it's there for life.

And are they mixing brands, I booked a Shellac appointment at a salon and they used the Shellac color but a different brand for base and topcoats. I'm not good with confrontation, but I should've just ended the appointment. But with my luck they would've tried to charge me a cancellation fee, but I don't get how they think they can mix up brands when you specifically booked for a certain type. Needless to say I got peeling and lifting, I don't even remember what lamp they used but I'm betting it never cured properly. (That was the last time I went to a salon)

I went to a “reputable” Salon…asked all the questions all the professionals on here tell you to ask. I asked about product content and about a year later I got it. I have three friends that now have allergies and they went to different salons. I think this is epidemic and if you go to a nail salon you are playing Russian roulette. Trust me…not worth it. There is no way to k kw if a salon is telling you the truth. Think about it. Soon this industry will be finished. I don’t know how it’s still going.

Great explanation, Anna! I think the most important part is that allergies are for life. Unless you had childhood allergies that cleared up with puberty, or in extremely rare cases pregnancy that cleared up a weird allergy, you are stuck with it. No amount of waiting will "cure" the allergy. Of course, I am allergic to non-gel polish 🤪 it's the formaldehyde releasers (like formalin) that do it for me.

I had a viewer tell me she was allergic to one of the ingredients in a gel polish and now she reacts to dental fillings. This is not a joke guys. I will share her story and pictures soon, she gave me permission.

David, often pregnancy clears things up like arthritis, psoriasis BUT once the pregnancy is over, these autoimmune diseases return back again, sadly!

@@TheSalonLife I'm a bit late here, but I've just been researching acrylates allergies because I considered switching to gels (and no longer do so), and learning about the connection to dental fillings has been shocking - because so few people are aware of it. From what I've seen, dental fillings (and also many implants) are done similar to how acrylics are put on the nail, by combining an acrylate polymer and a methacrylate monomer, with a few other ingredients, then curing. It is now the thing I've made my job to warn all my friends who consider doing or already do gels and acrylics about, because I know most companies and nail techs won't.

I have never used UV gel, but I have used glue for false nails and then I had a huge allergy which lasted 1 month. I didn't throw away the glue and then with this glue I wanted to glue a plastic object and so before opening it I put on gloves, I glued the plastic and then it started to scratch me everywhere and it's gone....1 month of scratching with red plaque on the arms, breasts, thighs, neck and even eyes....it was really terrible, if it only lasted 2 or 3 days ok but now 1 month!!!! The nightmare

I am using Kur Get Well Nail Recovery and once the bottles get to the half way point the formula becomes thick and stringy.. I have this with OPI nail treatments as well. Can I add something to the bottle to make it thinner/ not stringy?

You would have to ask the companies what they suggest. Every product is different. Some don’t believe that you can restore polish to original quality as different solvents evaporate at a different rate but some like Dazzle Dry say that their polishes can (and they need it because they dry so fast) be thinned and you don’t lose quality
