I wish I have found your channel before going to do gel nails in a salon that ended up damaging my nails and I'm in the very slow process of recovery. I had healthy natural nails prior getting the builder gel done, which chipped after just a couple of days, so I went to get it removed and she just filed it off my nails mostly, she didn't take the time to soak them off properly. Now I'm dealing with very dry thin nails, that were very painful in the first days as well. I'm using oils as advised by you and hoping for the best. When I use normal nail polish now and nail polish remover, my nails get some white spots which then gradually go away within a day or so. So I just gave up using nail polishes altogether until they completely grow out their damage. I also bought a hardener, but after seeing your videos decided not to use it on damaged nails. Thank you so much for all your advice

Thank you for this info. I personally have very healthy nails that are quite thick. I'm starting nail school next month, but Ive been testing out and learning about gels because I wanted to get a head start (I learned right away to cure twice as long as required, to be safer). I had thought about using my mother as a model while in school, but now I won't because she has quite damaged nails and I had thought if I used the more flexible products that she'd be safe, but now that I know that HEMA can penetrate damaged nails, I will definitely stick to regular manicures for her.

The tiny dab of oil does really work, and I'm glad you mentioned it again. I've followed up with lotion after oil so that I can do normal things without getting things oily afterwards. My hands and nails stay moisturized!

Thank you so much for this video. Now I know I have a gel allergy. I also know that using the Nailtiques nail hardener is not helping with my grow out and it’s just drying out my nail resulting in onycholysis . I just filed off all the damages nail including the lifting area. I already use the CND Recovery RX but I was using it on polished nails. I will be wearing my nails bare until they are healthy again. I just pray the onycholysis goes away completely this time.

Thank you so much for your wonderfully instructive videos. They have help me! My nails and hands just looked so…old. Ridged nails, splitting and calloused skin around the sides and base. I’d really just given up. But the gentle manicures you recommend, cuticle oil and hand cream after ever hand washing. Gently pushing back the skin at the base with a glass pusher and cuticle remover has worked wonders. My ridges are a part of aging, but a couple of coats of ridge filler, clear or sheer polish, just make my hands look younger. Still the hands of an older lady who loves the outdoors and gardening, but much healthier. Thank you.

I have naturally very weak, thin, bendy nails and they also ski jump. The only way to visually correct them is with gel. I do my best to keep them healthy with cuticle oil after hand washing, kerasal on new nail growth, etc. But I don't feel like leaving them bare Is an option because they are very unsightly due to the ski jumping and also they would tear below the free edge even with being gentle on them (I have to live life- cooking, cleaning, laundry, etc but I don't use them as tools, just the way normal people use their hands). I'm not sure what to do.

Hi Anna, thank you so much for these videos they’re very helpful. I heard from another educational video that the risk of absorbing nails isn’t to nails, it’s to the surrounding skin. But it makes sense that if the nails are extremely thin hema has the potential to penetrate. I just want to fact check this somehow.

Hi Anna. Your videos are always so informative. I used the Mavala (although I was a nervous wreck) twice last week and once this week. Their website says to use 3xs the first week but I thought that would be to much. My nails feel harder so I’m not going to use for a week or so to see how they do. I’ve watched your video on Mavala use about 3xs so I’m using your advice! My nails have improved so much following your videos, why would I stop now! Also, to everyone else, I would say, “Never use anything on your nails without Anna’s Advice, especially Mavala!” Thanks so much for everything Anna!❤❤

Anna, this is one of the best videos you've posted in a while. That Zoya product is so misleading! I was wondering what you think of Malava Barrier Base for my nails that can get a bit damaged from normal polish? It is water-based and nitrocellulose-free. You've mentioned nitrocellulose can be an issue and I was wondering if the Malava base coat might protect my nails a bit.

Any suggestions for a lifted toenail? My son jammed his big toe on the leg of the couch and the nail plate lifted almost to the living skin at the bottom! He washed it with soap and water and wrapped a bandage around the whole toe. Should he clip the nail plate to keep from getting fungus or leave the nail plate on to protect the nail bed🥴 Thank you for any help.

What about wearing reinforcement gel under the gel polish? Since it's filled every 3 weeks, the natural nails are not filed every time and would not get weakened by repeated scrubbing, wouldn't they? Also, since the reinforcement gel is not removed every time, it should also help avoid getting new gel polish through to the natural nail, right? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I use the beetles at home gel nail kit from amazon and have been using it for awhile. Last Sunday I used it and developed an allergy to it. My nails were throbbing, swollen, and had little blisters on them around the nail, so I immediately took it off. Now, a week later later, my finger tips are the only thing still sore. My skin around my nails has healed, but I have cracked and peeling skin that is painful under the tips of my nails/on my fingertips. I am getting married June 10th and was hoping to go to a salon to get acrylic tips. In your opinion, do you think I will have another allergic reaction, or was it just the at home gel that did that?
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Overexposure happens from continuous contact with improperly cured coating or excess of very allergenic ingredients in the product. Once this happens these allergies are then permanent. We don’t know exactly which ingredient now you are reacting to and because all of the enhancement products share similar ingredients you will probably (most likely) develop reaction to other products too. Ps. I have heard quite a few people developing overexposure after using the product you mentioned.
@YourBffSheryl Жыл бұрын
@@TheSalonLife thank you for your reply! I appreciate it. I don’t know who to reach out to about this. I know you would probably say I should avoid getting my nails done in general, but do you think dip nails would be a better option than getting acrylic with gel (for my wedding). Or, I could just use press ons.
@TheSalonLife Жыл бұрын
Without getting a patch test done you don’t know what you are allergic too. If you are allergic to acrylates (family of ingredients) you might be also allergic to cyanoacrylate (nail glue). I don’t know. Personally I would not use any enhancement product on someone who reacted to these products before. I guess a regular manicure with polish would be out of the question?
@YourBffSheryl Жыл бұрын
@@TheSalonLife thank you for the information! Maybe I’ll try to get a patch test done if my salon offers it. Such bad timing to develop an allergy! If it comes down to it, I’ll just have to do regular nail polish, although I will be disappointed since it’s my big day:/ I have been trying to research exactly what happened to me. I have only used my at home gel kit about 10 times over the last year. This last time I used it, I had freshly trimmed cuticles and tried a new technique which required me to seal the tips of my nails with polish, which resulted in gel polish getting on my fingertips. I used acetone on a brush to remove it from my fingertips, but I’m sure there was still a little leftover that I missed, and then I guess I did not properly cure my nails (my lamp is UV and LED) . I had no idea that nail allergies were a thing. And I also had no idea that once you have them they are hard to get rid of. I definitely wish I would have seen your videos sooner!

Pretty much everyone I talk to who had gone for IBX treatment had it done totally incorrectly. Basically painted on and cured. Not applied, heated up, wiped excess and cured. Thanks for this video. I’ve been considering a soak-off builder gel or polygel overlay for about a month because my natural nails have been chipping/breaking or splitting/snagging since starting aquatic therapy multiple times a week. I thought that my chances of damaging my nails or having an allergic reaction would be minimized to nearly zero by skipping the natural nail buffing step, using an at least 60W lamp, and getting a HEMA-free non-toxic product that can be soaked off. But since the possibility of a reaction wasn’t zero and quality products are hard to get without a license, I haven’t committed. What I really need to do is find an accessible way to do oil soaks while resting in bed after pool visits. Until then I’ve purchased more cuticle pens to refill and place in all my bags, with a different cuticle/nail oil than the one I’ve been using.

Well, its a decoration so people who are very gentle with their nails and their lifestyle allows them to have long nails. L&P system is quite rigid so it's not going to be an ideal option for people with very flexible nails. It's like hair extensions. If you have very thin, fine, damaged hair, you can do extensions but they will probably damage your thin, fine and already damaged hair. I know this is not fair because if your hair is healthy and strong then you probably don't need extensions but that's the way it is. It's like when you are rich and famous you get many things for free. And when you are poor and nobody, even a bank won't give you a loan. 😏
