My first semester in my master's in library and information science program was the worst. I was convinced that I wouldn't be able to do the work and would never become a librarian. I had people that believed in me and I finished and have been a librarian for nine years now. I believe in you. You are so passionate about your studies and research. You are in the right place. Therapy is so helpful. I've been seeing a therapist for over 4 years now. The race and medicine class sounds amazing. I love medical history.

Thank you for this video! I'm the same way about research and I can't see myself doing anything else besides contributing to my field and educating others. I would love to hear more about archives, since I'll be doing my masters in political science/ir and hopefully a phd, which has a crossover with history.

Talking to other PhD students about your research really helps, to say nothing of therapeutic. Chatting with a friend who was also a PhD candidate weekly helped me maintain my sanity through to the PhD's completion. Now, he is an Associate Prof in Canada and we still chat regularly!

Balancing course readings/discussion prep and research was a struggle for me too. Hoping I can get it together more next semester.

It's sooo interesting to see how PhD programmes work in the US - it's so different from where I live, they seem so much more structured! Hopefully there will be less zoom university when I apply for a PhD next year 🙏

I agree, some majors (mba) and degrees (phd) are heavily based on networking which is much harder online!

Yep! Networking is a fundamental part of making the most of ones degree and it has been made much more challenging online

Howard University and Hampton University have EXCELLENT Af. Am. archives!!! Norfolk State University as well. In fact, Hampton has archival material going all the way back to the First Landing in 1616.

I have been dying to go back into research over the last year or so and your videos have helped me out so much when I have been thinking about going back to school to get my masters after more than 5 years since I graduated from undergrad! I can’t wait to apply this fall to hopefully start next year when universities are back up and running (fingers crossed). Thank you for all your videos!!! They have helped immensely! And yes therapy is soo important! I had anxiety attacks during undergrad and I don’t think I could go through grad school masters and PHD without therapy!

​@@KaelynGraceApple I will definitely be singing up for some of the office hours once I have clearer idea as to what I want to do. I love that you offer these services to people. I used to volunteer with a few community centers (and actually lead a few classes for seniors in high school) to help them with undergrad applications, essay writing, etc. I feel like grad school apps are a completely different ball park lol.
