What did you do on a normal day? When did you have free time amd when did you have classes?

this company sucks!!!!!! i was the exchange student and they never helped you and treated u really badly, i had to scrub the toilet for the host family the very first night i was there!!! no joke. they want us to show them our culture ( share with our host family) i had to cook, pay for our food, and pretend we really enjoy it . when telling them had trouble staying with a host family because my only family member was an old woman, she required me to cook and clean for her as "part of the family chores" that's bullshit. they threaten me they will kick me out of the country. i then was moved to a very religious family who required me to go to church EVERYNIGHT and pay a dolla as donation. lived at a house with fleas, bugs, dead cockcroaches. which is disgusting !!!! they sounded caring and will provide what u need, but THEY DON"T! i DID learn from my exchange year, is to rely on yourself. oh by the way, they accused me for having eating disorder which they totally make it up , and they brought me to the hospital for check up, and want me to pay, no FUCKING WAY!!!!!!!!

Emilie Calder I did both, went on a summer course with EF, my UK host family really sucks, only allowed us to be in our room, that old lady also never talks, some of my friends host family was nice tho, but she locked up the living room, and never allowed us to get in, to be fair, she did give us a small TV in our room and told us, we could watch it. But I did meet some of the greatest friends ( yes EF friend who went on the same group ) Then, I tried another course, going to America, this time I was stayed in the dorm in university , it was pretty perfect, my friends were from Japan, Hong Kong, Taiwan , a few from Korea and Thailand . That was an awesome month! Before prepping me to a HELL HOLE!!!! For my exchange year. U can't choose where to go, they will let the host family pick u. ( to be continue)

@TheNextStepUploader it's never the schools fault, if you want to learn and make effort then you'll learn. You can"t just rely on Ef to learn a language, it's up to you. Also, depending on your mother tongue and how language learning is easy for you, it could be easier or hard. my mother tongue is french and arabic, but I became fluent in english by my own in only 2 years. i even learned japanese, and korean, but forgot everything, cause I stopped. Ef gives you the opportunity to learn a language in it's home country. which gives you access to the culture and gift you with an amazing skill in communication with real citizens. I one day want to also go with Ef, to china. Do not base your opinion on one person, who you think didn't improve. take care.

Hi Marta! I really want go to language course in Los Angeles from EF but my parents don't think it's good idea because I'm sixteen and they know nothing about this type of course. So I've got a couple of question to you ;) - Did you know hosting family befor arriving? Did you talk with them? - What about transport in LA? Did you travel by bus or tube? Or you rent a bike? How much time you had to go to school from your home? - How look your typical day in LA? When you had lessons, free time? Or every day looked different? - Which type of extra activities are there? Could you go sailing, diving? Did you have any trips? Did you have to pay extra for them? - How did look your arriving and departuring? I want to know who take you from/to airport in Los Angeles. What did you do in your free time (after classes) and did you have a lot of free time? Did you have to be home before for example 8pm or could you stay out late?

I went with EF to Hastings, UK in 96/97, and there were loads of after school activities, some were free and some you have to pay some money towards, however they usually tell you. I started in an Upper intermediate class and completed the Cambridge First Certificate for none native speaker at around Xmas and during the Spring term, i completed the Cambridge Advance English certificate, CAE. I'm still residing in England.

It was very minimal, I knew the basics but I was far from comfortable so you can start at any level of English!

I'm there right now :3 If you're considering going, you gotta know that the school is way overpriced but the whole experience is amazing, I didn't regret going to LA for a second. I've been here for 4 months now and I still don't want to go home. Although I don't regret choosing LA because of all the awesome people I have met here, I have friends who went to EF San Fransisco, Miami or New York and they all prefer those cities/schools so keep that in mind. Choosing the city where you want to go is hard but wherever you'll go, It'll be amazing.

Can you tell about the classes some more? How was it, what did you do, was it hard, etc.

+celi0077 the classes were nice. You have one teacher that gives you lessons everyday about grammar and reading etc. and than if you do the intensive one or the general course you have some lessons which you can choose what you want to do. For example, you can choose that you want classes about article papers or even classes were you dance hip hop. The classes are mostly focused on students communicating with each other. You will talk a lot with you colleagues. The classes were fun and all the teacher were nice!

You can do either! They usually have a list of activities that you can do but you can also do them by yourself

I went to miami this summer with EF and it was incredible. Yes, in LA i needed to be home before 10Pm because i was under 18. It's a law there in LA. Although, My hostfamily was chill, so it was not a big problem to be home a later. It didn't bother me to do something so it was oke :)

I'd say wait a couple of years. I was at EF Auckland for a couple of months and although there were two people that were around your age they were a bit immature and couldn't f.x. go to parties and events because of their age. Seems like they did make a couple of friends but in general your experience will be best if you are around 18-22.
