I am allways sad to see how few people see such a great minde like mr Rees. There should be millions to listen to him..

the climate sceptic question gave Rees a brilliant opportunity to give the elevator version of why the thesis of Climate change is credible... and he hit it out of the park!

The flaw I see is that we have a complete solution here. Bill offers a logic of administration, or mode of governance that would remedy many of the chronic unsolvable dilemmas we face. However, like many environmentalists he suggests we must chose this path over the current one. By the time this thinking resonates with media, the public, politicians and finally policy makers the means and ends have become conflated. We have had elections where the public give government an electoral mandate to mitigate climate change and move to a sustainable economy. The goal is adopted, but the method is lost, perhaps purposively. Hence the paradox of why nothing ever changes. Doing things the same way, regardless of the goal, will get us to the same place. If we don’t change what we are measuring, how we are valuing, and the way we think about the world, it cannot change. I now believe the single most important change is to reject the entirety of neo-classical economics in planning and decision-making. Economists are unable and unwilling to understand differently. Complimentary to that end, the public must reject conservative ideology and conservative politics. It’s the only way.

One thing has changed. Along with the industrial revolution came the death of all Kings. Now you need some governance but democracy has failed. What would you do if you were the King?

Wow, that guy who asked the climate denial question, was doing a sudoku puzzle (or somesuch) all through Bill Rees's talk and then comes out with that. I hope he realises how he came across.

No... It's best he remain clueless and oblivious and farts out his oral methane in such a scattered incoherent manner that he literally screams IDIOT-denialist

That was incredibly awkward! “I’m an environmentalist, but I’m not convinced climate change exists, you haven’t proven it’s real! I watched a video from 1997.”

Nearly half the country here in the U.S. is still dumb enough to deny it to this day.

The guy at 7:70 sat the entire time in the presentation doing a crossword puzzle, just to show up and say that he doesn't believe in climate change and asking for "proof." If he had listened to the talk before the Q&A his questions might have been answered. It's terrifying to think that we're still having this debate 8 years later.
