It's refreshing to engage in open sessions of questioning and answering where we can discuss the foundations of Islam and thought. In today’s society, such dialogues are crucial, as they encourage us to explore and challenge our beliefs. Blind faith lacks depth and understanding; questioning it allows us to seek truth and meaning. Truly, thank you for your efforts and may Allah (SWT) continue to provide you with the means to do so. ❤

Assalamu Alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh, My name is Shamoon Rashid, and I am from India. I am currently a third-year engineering student, born into a Sunni family. My lineage traces back to Imam Zaid (A.S.), the son of Imam Sajjad (A.S.). I am writing to seek guidance as I am currently on a journey to discover the truth about my religion. I have been studying the Ithna Ashari Shia sect, and I find myself deeply confused about which path to follow. At times, I feel that Shia teachings are correct, and at other times, I feel that the Sunni perspective is right. As an ordinary individual, it is truly challenging to discern the truth. I sincerely seek your help and guidance in this matter. With love and respect, Shamoon Rashid

We also have a whole series showcasing how the Shia sect evolved, and how deviation that was once only at the fringes became mainstream and widely accepted with the passage of time: studio.kzbin.infoPLtu4Nz3xrIMJcf4dDmmIWlr6cWM4CNeNn/videos If you are not much of video lectures person, the following articles on our website shed light on what our platform is all about: al-islaah.org/what-is-the-al-islaah-platform/ al-islaah.org/why-is-islaah-needed-in-the-ummah/ As for Sunnism, our scholarship maintains that it is also a sectarian reaction to the many different sects and movements that emerged in the early history. In order to oppose those sects and movements, the pioneers of Sunnism overreacted and added the opposite of their claims to the religious belief system of Islam, thereby inflating it and making it larger, bigger and more complex than the original simple easy to understand ʿAqīdah (creedal belief system) and articles of Imān (faith) which Allah bound this Ummah by in verses such as 02: 177, 285; 04: 136 of the Qur’ān, and it is those additions which distinguish Sunnī Islam from the Islam of the time of the Prophet (Saww). The goal of Al Islaah is to abide by the Islam of the time of the Prophet (Saww), and not any later sectarian version of it. We therefore reject sectarian (both Sunnī as well as Shīʿa Imāmī) additions to that pure and pristine Islam of the Prophet's time. Sunnī sectarian additions include, but are not limited to: - Belief in the Khulafā Rāshidīn (first four righteous Caliphs after the Prophet (Saww)), and their superiority in sequence of their assumption of the caliphate, as a requirement of Imān (faith) and part of the ʿAqīdah (Islamic belief system and creed). -ʿAdālat al-Ṣaḥābah ¬(Moral and ethical uprightness and righteousness of the companions) and belief in their infallibility from lying against the Prophet (Saww). - Qaḍā & Qadar (Determinism and Predestination) - Uncreatedness of Quran - Ru’yat Allah [Beatific Vision] i.e. seeing Allah on the Day of Judgment for the believers) - Impermissibility of rising up against oppressive Muslim rulers and tyrants so long as they establish prayer - Confinement of the Khilāfah/Imāmah to Quraish - Second Coming & Return of ʿĪsā bin Maryam (as) - Temporary Hell fire for major sinners from the Ummah - Masḥ ʿala al-Khuffayn (Permissibility of wiping over leather socks in ablution) It won’t be so bad, relatively speaking, if Sunnis were to believe in these things due to being convinced by the dhanni evidence for them in their sectarian corpus, but for them to expect the entire Muslim Ummah to believe in them, and to regard those who don’t as deviant and misguided is unjust and unfair, because the evidence for all these later additions is purely Dhanni (conjectural and speculative) and not Qatiyy (certain and definitive), since Allah (SWT) never included them in the lists He provided us with of the articles of faith in the Quran. Therefore, it is unjust to impose these beliefs on the entire Ummah and to expect them to believe in them, because if we give every sect the right to impose the dhanni narrations and Ahadith it has in its corpus on the entire Ummah, it would only result in mass Takfeer and excommunication of huge swathes of Muslims from the folds of Islam, Iman, and the brotherhood of the Ummah. The Shia Zaydis, Ithna Asheris, and Ibadhis would have to expel the Ahlu Sunnah from Islam if they were to bind them by the dhanni narrations in their corpus. So all in all, it would be chaos. The only solution is to only impose what’s Qatiyy from the Quran on the Ummah, while giving people the freedom to have their own personal readings, interpretations and inclinations when it comes to dhanni matters that Allah has not made a big deal of in the Quran. In any case, without accepting what the Sunnis added to the Islam of the Quran, you can’t really be a bonafide Sunnī, at least not in the sectarian sense. And this is why, our scholarship cannot be rightly labeled as Sunni. As for the label ‘Shīʿa’, we are only comfortable with this label being used to describe our political reading of history. But Shiism is not our religious identity. Only Islam is. We maintain “Muslim” and “Mumin” are the only religious labels Allah approved for our Ummah. And thus we must stick to these, and not promote sectarianism for that is rebellion against Allah’s Vision in the Quran.

Imam Zahbi RA stance is not that if you are too obsessed or devoted to Imam Ali AS, then you are deviant or an innovator. As Syyid said, most of the sahaba (RA) and the Prophet (PBUH) were extremely in love with Ali. If we are following him, we are performing sunnah, which is not a problem or innovation. Actually, the problem (which Imam Zahabi also wanted to say) is to show extra ordinary love-that love developed the risk of influencing others love, which was not transferred from the beloved Prophet (PBUH) and pious companions (May Allah be pleased with all of them). May be it clears what I want to say, Cabir Chudhary said: Love does not mean ticking one person and putting a cross on the whole world. Everyone has their own place, position, and portion in a person's heart and life. Rasool ul Allah (SAW) loved Ali and Abubakr at the same time. He loved Hassan and showed affection too towards Osama bin Zaid; he loved Al Zahra but admired Aisha too. Loving Ali, Fatima, Hussan, or Hussain (may peace be upon all of them) doesn't mean you have to ignore or detach from other people who participated in Prophet PBUH's life, and he himself recognized and praised them. Doing so wouldn't be only wrong and unfair but also inequity, deviation, or innovation because this is against the practice of the Holy Messenger (PBUH). Imam Zahabi was from Ahle Sunnat, so he focused too much on Sunnah. But if someone is happy and satisfied with doing so (extraordinary loving only imam Ali and expel others), they are happy... It doesn't certify them to be sent to fire. But yes, it's a deviation from the Prophet's (PBUH) actions. Additionally, every decent, humble, and down-to-earth person genuinely offended by such love (for example, loving a single member and turning out entire family members) finds it unpleasant. So how could the most pious member of Ehle Bait, Ali bin abi Talib, not be offended by it? It is something I wanted to mention to al-islaah, It's simple, but point to ponder ❤

As a Sunni, I always respect the views of Al Islaah and I hope more shias follow them, instead of the ghulats. The ones that don't say their Imams are somehow "divine" "infallible" "have knowledge of the unseen" taking Allah swt exclusive powers are in good place. More focus on on worshipping in Allah swt, praising Allah swt, and sending Salaams to the Prophet saw as you are commanded in the Quran is needed.

Of course, our scholars and researchers have a lot of content so it will take time before all of it is readily available on the website, but the plan is to keep uploading content to it after it is reviewed by our experts.
