Like your view to GS...and all your videos...I have had 17 GS-es and all I can say is that GS is very unique and special car...Simply with all his flaws, he is adorable and easy to love...

Interesting aspects that you mention in the video. I have never had any bad experiences with the GS (even not with my GS 1015 cm build 1971 in the 80s and one day 1985 by minus 20 degrees) heating in winter. I have never smelled oil either. I currently use a GS practically every day - even in winter. It always starts and heats very well, so much so that I have to turn the heating down. The secret to driving and using a GS every day, in my opinion, is: do every service and maintain the car like a small airplane.

@@citromec In 1985, during the cold winter, my parents had a DS 23 Ambulance with a high GRP roof. Sitting in the back was very cold. But in comparison, during the same period, it was cozy and warm in the GS!

Another enjoyable video. Thanks! I agree that the heater isn’t very good. The heat output is poor in extreme cold. Can’t say that I have the oils smell issue, but my engine is oil tight so that probably helps. Reliability is good. Never had any serious issues. Just the things that routine maintenance takes care of. G’s like to be used. I keep mine on the road as far into the year as I can. I had my G in use today. Lovely bright and chilly Scottish Autumn day and it loved it!

Thank you! It's always nice to listen to someone who enjoys this beautiful car that much. There are surely some little tricky points, but you can easily jump in a GS and drive 500 km without hassle. You just stop for petrol.

Only ever been in one (Oh no not quite true... I was in a Birotor 2 years ago) when my uncle owned one from new in the early 80's. He was quite impressed and drove many a citroen afterwards. I was a kid below 10 years old and it impressed me very much. I really liked the ride and not even to a lesser extent, the engine sound. I still even remember that upto this day. My uncle had no issues with the car but he traded it in for something else a few years onward. My father in law had one in Austria and often says it was one of the best car he ever had , beside a 2cv as a student. He also had it from new, a few years , so never made aquantance with the gremlins and the brown daemon. As with many citroens from that age, if you do maintenance it will be fine for a long time. But at an interval of 5000km for my ID 19 it also makes running costs relatively high, especially if you rely on a garage doing it for you.....

The benefit of living in Australia - the GS Break that I have access to (before we took it off the road for an engine rebuild) didn't even need the heater connected! The only part that let us us down in that car was a relatively new pump gaiter that split, resulting in a rather large LHM leak...

Don’t forget one of the best things. The front suspension is very easy to work on.

When I started driving in the late 90's in Britain these were already rare. I found a 1982 one which only needed _a little_ welding but my father convinced me to buy a mk2 Astra (Kadett) instead. I never forgave him.

I liked this video very much. I'd like to see deeper thoughts on reliability. cpuld you elaborate more on that?. Concerning the oil, here in southern Spain Im thinking of mineral 25w60 oil because the 20w50 becomes just water in the summer. Most of the times the oilpreassure light turns red at low revs...

Suggested video topics, if that interests you: Is GS/A conversion from LHD to RHD possible? How different is the GS and GSA? Is it just an engine, g/box, trim, & dash update, or are there deeper differences? Can GSA engines & 5-speed gearboxes go into GS bodies? Can GS bumpers, dashes, & door handles be retro-fitted to a GSA for classic look? Can GS/A engines be tuned or tweaked reliably for a little more power? Were there any GS produced with GSA plastic bumpers?
