I love watching all of your videos as I have a 2 year old and am working on moving towards a Waldorf home. Your videos de-mistify a lot of the waldorf concepts and ideas and make them tangible for the mom who is new to Waldorf. I really appreciate that!! Also, you're just so calm to watch and I imagine you were a spectacular Waldorf teacher :) Side note: does your tattoo say "play"? If so, I love you even more, ha

Thank you this was super interesting! I’m wondering now if Mister Rogers studied this, as this music sounded very similar to his.

Thank you Sarah for your videos! I learned a lot in this video and never thought I would be interested in such instruments until I watched this. After looking on your store website I am not sure which one I would like to get for me and my 2 year old. It would be so helpful if you could make another video comparing the sounds of the other pentatonic instruments such as the children’s glockenspiel, pat bells, and the recorder. I’m so glad I found your channel and store. Thanks!

Hey Sarah! Thanks so much for this video. :) .. I appreciate the point you make about children needing to conserve energy during such a pivotal time in their physical development to help grow their organs and bodies .. I can see how some music could add unnecessary stress and confusion .. I am also quite curious about your reference to the mood of the fifth being composed only a fifth above and below the A .. so does this mean songs in the mood of the fifth only contain 3 notes? .. please help me understand. :)

That is a good point about discordence when a child plays being discouraging. I hadn't really thought about it but it is true. Kids should feel the can play and know all music comes from people somehow. It is one way we mirror God and the spiritual.

Hello Ms. Sarah, what if your child is 8, can any of these methods be used to help the child develop in the way intended for the years between 1 and 7 years old? Considering they have already pass these formative years?

I am not Sarah, but I am a Waldorf mom, my son is 12, and on the spectrum, so for him, yes, I have a plied early childhood methods quite successfully. Depending on the emotional maturity of your boy, and what he needs. Only you know your child, and you would know if this would actually help them. What Steiner said about child development, it’s not set in stone. The child changes, just as we do, and the children are different now, from when he was alive. A lot has changed since 1919, and so has Waldorf education. If you try these methods, I hope they help, Waldorf is about healing, and evolving. Good luck.

Vary natural music that speaks to possibility The petatonic scale is used in one of my favorinte computer games for that reason and didn't know it. Not sure I agree about the drums especially African style beats not being good for young kids to listen too but I can see why one might wait the have a child play them. Unless of course the child shows musicality and interest young but even then one would be careful not to go too fast.
