yep, but you can find his own comments on this in some interview. He was drafted during the Korean war. (It was probably the last time the draft was used because marines suffered significant causalities.) Neither he nor his officers enjoyed the situation. An involuntary conscript does not make a good soldier. In the interview he brings up one episode that describes the story well. That one of his officers received some note about his misbehavior, after looking through it the officer laughed and threw the paper in the bin, because there was absolutely no point in wasting time on pranks of a conscript. Thomas is not some superhero in disguise who saves the world by writing books. He is just a smart, tough, practical-minded American. On top of that, he is so well educated and expressive in his writing and speaking. All together it makes quite a brilliant combination.

Nelson Robert Willis Precisely my point. It appears he isn't as humble as I initially thought, though. I mean who brags about their I.Q.?
@richarddavis11639 жыл бұрын
R. Brandon Perez Well, I didn't brag about my I.Q., I simply said that I was tested at 165. I have said many times that I only completed the sixth grade and that I did not attend high school. A fine mind is more than a high I.Q., the very word implies a sharpening, a finely sharpened knife, for example. Professor Sowell's mind was sharpened at university, mine was not.

Dr Sowell exemplifies what I believe is one of his own mantras: think before you speak ("It doesn't matter how smart you are unless you stop and think."). Every sentence is strung together so clearly, every idea expressed so concisely and without flowery language. He emanates humility and raw honesty. What a giant! As a young person, he is the role model I wish all young men could learn about at school or university, if not for his work then at least for his character.

hello mr. Thomas Sowell my name is Abel Gonzalez and I did not finish High School I don't pretend to be smart or intelligent but one thing I can say I have common sense not much but enough anyway I've enjoyed listening to your programs they are very informative and very educational I have learned more by watching and listening to the way you come to your conclusions or better yet your facts because they cannot be contested ever since I heard of you and Walter Lee Williams Milton Friedman William F Buckley and Adam Smith the one who wrote the book of the law I cannot stop watching and listening and it's helped me to stop and think and way out the facts to whatever topics or statements then I listen to so what I'm really trying to say is you made me realize that we should stop and think and weigh out what we are being told and 2 reason and and way out the facts before we conclude or make a decision on anyting and for that I'm grateful and I wish you well and long life and may God be with you and your family

@@lanceyatooma2331 part of his presentation is about the senselessness of people choices. This is a strong example of the self destruction which essentiality is what a large number of people in the country are practicing. They sell that the challenge to telling a socialist joke is that not everyone gets it. The fact that people are practicing self antihalation isn't something everyone gets.
